A German hospital says a 65-year-old man who survived the Middle East respiratory syndrome but was left weakened has died of a lung infection.
Michael Schiffbaenker, a spokesman for the Niels-Stensen group of hospitals, said Tuesday the man died earlier this month in a facility in Lower Saxony. He said the hospital had agreed with the family not to release details of the fatal infection
...
Authorities say the man appears to have caught MERS in February during a trip to Abu Dhabi.

So, he “overcame” MERS, but was left with a weakened respiratory system and died of a lung infection? Might I suggest that he didn’t quite “overcome” MERS?
To: george76
Then I would concluded that he did not overcome anything, but died from it.

Bring Out Your Dead
Post to me or FReep mail to be on/off the Bring Out Your Dead ping list.
The purpose of the Bring Out Your Dead ping list (formerly the Ebola ping list) is very early warning of emerging pandemics, as such it has a high false positive rate.
So far the false positive rate is 100%.
At some point we may well have a high mortality pandemic, and likely as not the Bring Out Your Dead threads will miss the beginning entirely.
*sigh* Such is life, and death...

Secondary infection? Like surviving the viral flu but dying of bacterial pneumonia?

MERS doesn’t scare me per se.
XDR TB and open borders do.

Thanks for the ping. The cases I read about in Saudi indicated those that survived were left with permanent respiratory damage.
I wonder. MERs came out of Saudi and not Egypt.
