1. On Obamacare:
I think the best legislative option is to allow states to opt out, Cruz said in the Capitol. I am cautiously optimistic that the Supreme Court will conclude in King vs. Burwell that the Obama IRS disregarded the plain language of the statute and acted lawlessly. And when that occurs, it will be a real opportunity for Congress to lead.
Here is a little bit more on what an opt-out might look like.
2. On trade: TPA is what the Senate voted on recently. I voted in favor of fast track because I support free trade. I think free trade benefits America. It creates jobs opening markets to our farmers, to our ranchers, to our manufacturers, improves economic growth. In Texas alone, roughly 3 million jobs depend on international trade.
And if you support free trade, the only way history has shown free trade agreements get negotiated is through fast track.
Now there is a second issue which has caused a great deal of confusion and that is TPP it is one specific trade deal that is being negotiated. It is separate from TPA. Congress has not voted on TPP, and theres a great deal of concern about TPP.
Now, I have not voted on TPP, and I havent decided if I will support it or not, because the negotiation isnt complete, and Im going to wait and review and see what the agreement is first before assessing if it would be beneficial or harmful.
Much more hereincluding a response to Senator Jeff Sessionss claims about TPA.
Some people make the mistake of confusing “managed trade” with free trade because its marketed as free trade
There’s legal immigration, and then there’s an abuse of legal immigration. His H1B ideas called for something like 3-fold the number that are now permitted each year. Even that program is abused by the likes of Disney, Microsoft, and many, many others. It’s immoral. There is no other way to describe it.
So, a generalized support for legal immigration I understand. Support for immigrants to take American jobs in a time of record low job participation is irrational.
Well, lets get to know everybody. Do you have a source for that?
Ted Cruz May 2015:
Sen. Cruz. I am a strong supporter of free trade, but I cannot support legislation that would allow the President to once again circumvent Congress to enact his own immigration laws.
Ted Cruz in June 2015:
Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) argued Trade Promotion Authority (TPA) is not giving the president more authority and that Sen. Jeff Sessions (R-AL) is not accurate in some of his claims regarding the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) on Fridays broadcast of The Kuhner Report on Bostons WRKO.
“It (TPP) is separate from TPA.”
Deceptive. TPA will make TPP possible.
I am not being totally serious, but does this line up with pre-Hastert and post Hastert news?
The vote that matters is the vote tomorrow on cloture, Cruz said. Any senator who votes yes on cloture tomorrow is voting to give Harry Reid the power to fully fund Obamacare. I will vote no on cloture tomorrow. That vote is the fight. 9/25/13
Ted Cruz voted for permanent cloture on the TPP and any other trade agreement that Obama comes up with in the next 18 months.
There is no getting around that fact.
He can do a song and dance until the cows come home, but he voted to give Obama the power to screw America permanently for the next 18 months.
The fundamental transformation is now in 4th gear. Cruz is apparently jumping on the bandwagon.
We will see. The cards are on the table. Silly thought, but I sure wish we had JFK.
Jeff Sessions is not lying! Why would he need to? He has always been forthright. He is not running for anything. He can be a senator as long as he wants. He has always stood up for us. There’s just no benefit to him to not be truthful. He is a rock compared to his colleagues.
It is hard to determine you they are talking about, Pete or Jeff.
Jeff Sessions. He’s my senator. Sorry for the confusion.
Your posts 54, 59, 62, track my views almost exactly. I love the guy. But I am upset about congress passing laws they didn’t write, didn’t read, and we aren’t allowed to see. Voting for a law enabling it even if he subsequently votes against it sounds like gaming the system.
I’m not happy about this; the only guy in the race that remotely interested me is shooting himself in the head and I don’t get it.
I like Jeff. They try to blend in their last name for effect.
Thanks. I read it. I am opposed. Unalterably.
Thanks I have read enough to know Sessions is the truthful one here.
None of those agreements are ‘free trade’!
True!
I think you missed my point. I wasn’t accusing Sessions of lying. Inwas saying that in order for Cruz to be right he’d have to be. And that we will end up finding out. Then I laid out the probable results of both scenarios.
It wasn’t an accusation, or even an inference. I was just laying out the potential scenarios.
Took 5 seconds to find this on a search engine. There are many more.
