House Rejects Trade Bill, Rebuffing Obama’s Dramatic Appeal
New York Times ^ | June 12, 2015 | Jonathan Weissman

House Democrats rebuffed a dramatic personal appeal from President Obama on Friday, torpedoing his ambitious push to expand his trade negotiating power — and, quite likely, his chance to secure a legacy-defining trade accord spanning the Pacific Ocean.

The Dems still have the edge in the 2016 elections. Demography is destiny.

The Senate could pass its own version and then it would go to conference. I don’t see how the Senate can link them unless they pass a bill containing elements of all three. In any event, I suspect that a deal is being brokered so the Dems can claim to be the party of the working man and made the necessary changes so the bills can be passed. I doubt the Dems will abandon Obama. As I have said, this is all political theater.

Guess I won’t have to “read it to find out what’s in it” after all!

“Cruz has explained his positions in all important areas including, in detail, the TPA trade bill and the secret TPP bill.”

*****

His explanation was brought to you by Goldman Sachs, his wife’s employer and source of millions in campaign donations. The same as his stance on H-1B visas. Won’t be fooled again.

"and, in fact, any debate is controlled."

DOES NOT MATTER!

Democrats in a LANDSLIDE in 2016, taking both houses and POTUS>The stupid GOP bastard were determined to cede the Republic and that's what they did when they took this foolish gambit.

It was always "World Governance" or Democrats running the USA.

What was SOOOO valuable to these Republicans that they would cede the nation to chaos and rape?

I think free trade benefits America, it creates jobs, opening markets to our farmers, to our ranchers, to our manufacturers, improves economic growth. In Texas alone, roughly three million jobs depend upon international trade. And if you support free trade, the only way history has shown free trade agreements get negotiated is with fast track. Now there is a second issue that’s caused a great deal of confusion, and that is TPP.

Yeah, like NAFTA. So where has free trade gotten us in terms of the American worker? Depressed wages and the lowest labor participation rates in 38 years. And of course, free trade means the other countries can violate the agreement with impunity and the US does nothing except run bigger and bigger trade deficits.

This bill is all about payback to the corporate paymasters who fund the politicians who do their bidding. The corporations owe no allegiance to the US. They can locate anywhere.

Yes. And his “explanation” was more lies and subterfuge.

He never really answered any of the questions and just kept talking in circles to avoid give a real and straight answer.

If the answer is long and it goes in circles it is probably untrue.

If a politician hides an agreement from you they are probably doing it because they know you will hate what is in it. So you should not do anything to help them with what they are hiding from you.

Ted Cruz loses on both points and now I don’t believe a word he says. He is gone to me forever for his betrayal.

Indeed! It doesn’t take a lot of practice to spot one.

However, it’s sometimes difficult to identify the motive.

The Stupid Party? It’s Americans who are stupid for allowing this nation’s governing body to be insulting our values and freedoms for this long. We will, most likely, never recover.

Because anybody that disagrees with you is a troll. So says the troll I guess.

The majority has spoken and we don’t trust Ted Cruz and feel betrayed by him. And now the TPA failed so Cruz alienated all of us for no reason.

What a brilliant move.

Not really. Anybody voting for a bill kept secret from the public is anti freedom. That does not mean that those who opposed are pro freedom though.

“Up or down vote” means the Senate has surrendered their 60-vote cloture right and surrendered the right of ANY member of either part of Congress to offer amendments. It has also taken away the right of filibuster.

Don’t treat us like ignorant fools. If TPP was so great they would not be refusing to let us see this mess until after the law was changed via TPA to make it easier to force it down our throats.

Giving those powers away DOES surrender power to the President. It is absolutely insulting for Cruz to do something and then think we are so stupid that he can convince us he didn’t do something that he just did!!!

I feel so betrayed by Ted Cruz and I was a fool that donated to his campaign and talked to numerous people about him.

Now I am spending far more time telling folks I was wrong and that he is a fraud. Thank God we have so many folks to choose from and the election is 17 months away so we can move on and find someone we can trust.

Cruz and Sessions are saying completely different things about the same thing they have read. One of them is lying and I am pretty darn sure it is Ted Cruz.

And to top it all off he has now alienated and infuriated millions of Republican voters for no benefit or reason because the bills have died. Brilliant move.
