Ted Cruz Closing in on Marco Rubio in Florida
Shark Tank ^ | May 21, 2015 | Nicole Sanders

Posted on 06/10/2015 12:12:50 PM PDT by SoConPubbie

On Wednesday night, U.S. Senator Ted Cruz (TX-R) essentially tied Senator Marco Rubio in Florida Family Policy Council’s GOP Presidential Straw Poll in Orlando, Fl.

Marco Rubio got 33.7% of the vote whereas Ted Cruz came in a close second with 30.7%.

Jeb Bush and Scott Walker both came in third-place with 8.9% each, Rick Santorum 6.7%, Rand Paul 4.5%, Ben Carson 3.4%, Mike Huckabee 2.2% and Rick Perry 1.1%.

The other 2016 GOP candidates: Chris Christie, Carly Fiorina, Lindsey Graham, Bobby Jindal and John Kasich didn’t get any votes.

Political analysts have since viewed this poll as a victory for Ted Cruz. They say he is reinforcing the idea that America’s Conservative voters are deciding early who to rally behind.

The Florida Family Policy Council event was moderated by attorney John Stemberger. He provided an examination of individual candidate strengths and weaknesses prior to the straw poll vote. Decision leads included Carl Stevens, Florida Senator Alan Hayes, Sara Johnson, Byran Empric, Karin Hoffman and Pastor Kurt Kelly.

During the event, Senator Alan Hayes was also recognized for his accomplishments and dedication to successfully passing legislation protecting unborn children in the state.

“Gee, both are racing to the bottom to win the ObamaTrade trophy.”

What is ObamaTrade? Please post the bill here so we can all see it. What was the final vote? Did Obama already sign it? What specific provisions in the bill did Cruz vote already vote on?

Curious minds want to know.

I will not vote for Marco, but his comment about “standing at the water’s edge of calling Christianity hate speech” was spot on. I have to give Rubio that one.

The political authority on the evil inherent in ObamaTrade is Alabama Senator Jeff Sessions when he exposed its anti-American and job-killing dangerousness.

Opinions are sometimes formed by the last person you talked with. A lot could still change in the coming months, and while the field is in a state of flux, that does not necessarily speak ill of those of limited showing. It is a matter of exposure at this stage, and just getting noticed can be a major achievement.

The promised debates between the various Republican candidates could be structured rather better. Play it like a basketball elimination, pairing off the various candidates at random selection, and go through pairings of the winners of the individual debates, with a similar followup of the losing candidate of each debate, doing rematches of those who seemed singularly promising, even after coming in second best in an earlier match-up.

Everybody deserves a hearing at this point, because remember who the ultimate confrontation is going to be with. And we do not want anybody who will “graciously” lose for our side.

November 2016 will see a bare-knuckled, smash-mouth, take-no-prisoners, death match.

Jeb Bush got 8.9% in Florida!?

That’s hilarious and heartening. Wow!

Anywho, congrats to Ted for a very good showing.

I’m not sure why Rubio is so high up, but I won’t be supporting him.

Adios is right! If Jebbie is only polling 9% in his home state, he might decide that he’s not the happy warrior after all and announce he’s not running...

I follow Senator Jeff Sessions regularly and correspond with Alabamans that talk to his office regularly.

Senator Sessions did NOT say anything about “job-killing”. He specifically pointed out to Senator Cruz that Obama had a ‘backdoor amnesty’ provision in the the TPA.

And What did Ted Cruz do when Sessions informed him about the backdoor amnesty?

Ted filed an amendment to prevent it and it was folded in with a package of amendments and was passed. Ted Cruz’ anti-amnesty provision is part of the TPA.

Ted Cruz and Jeff Sessions work together and get along very well with each other.

Ted Cruz will create millions of jobs when he is President with the TPA. And that’s not just talk. He will allow the glut in USA produced oil to be exported and he will allow the enormous surplus of natural gas to be exported as LNG He will also allow for ranchers and farmers to sell many more of their products overseas. This translates into millions of jobs because as it is right now, the restrictions have cut the hiring boom in the fracking/drilling industry and that industry has added nearly a million jobs in the last 5 years. With Ted Cruz as President using TPA that industry and others will again boom and create millions of secure high paying jobs.

Obama wanted TPA for his backdoor amnesty but now he can’t get it because of Cruz. There’s not much more that Obama can do with an actual trade in the little time he has left in office.

Here’s what Ted Cruz has to say directly about TPP/TPA (start time 52:00):
