Sea Shepherd Conservation Society agreed to pay $2.55 million to Japan's Institute of Cetacean Research on Monday as part of a settlement to resolve a long-standing legal battle over the anti-whaling groups tactics against Japanese whaling ships in the Antarctic.
The settlement came the same day the U.S. Supreme Court refused to hear Sea Shepherds appeal of a federal courts finding that the group was in contempt of a court order to stay clear of Japanese whaling ships.
The activist groups tactics at sea include throwing smoke bombs at Japanese whaling ships and using metal-reinforced ropes to damage propellers and rudders. The question is whether those tacticswhich typically take place in international watersamount to piracy, and whether a U.S. court can order those activities to be stopped if they take place outside its jurisdiction.
Sea Shepherd believes it cant, but the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit Court upheld that it can. Now, thanks to the settlement, Sea Shepherd will be giving millions of dollars to an organization it has tirelessly battled against in a fight to save the whales.

Whale flatulence was featured in a PSA on the 1972 National Lampoon Radio Dinner LP.
Anyway, foreigners in Japan who have tried whale meat say it’s a disappointment, and not the steak from a 10 ton seagoing cow that they were expecting.
Steers & pigs are raised specifically for food, and for the most part are killed humanely. Japs fly a false flag and kill the whales for niche dining, and they do so using brutal techniques. I like a good steak and enjoy pork chops. I wouldn’t buy or eat whale meat from those purple-pissers.
No, they sunk some in Norway I think too. Somewhere in that area.
Thats fine. Don’t act like a liberal and tell people what they can eat in Japan. Unless you are a liberal. Then your position is entirely explainable.
PS, If putting a spike into someones head is humane, suggest it to the Prisons to save on drugs and electricity. See how humane they believe it is.
Deer are not farm animals. Should hunting them be banned as well?
1. Am to the right of Ronald Reagan. Don’t care what the Japs eat, just don’t be lying jerkoffs about what you’re doing.
2. Spiking cattle is an instantaneous death. (Yes, occasionally a screw up, but rare). I’m for bringing back hanging & firing squads for humans - quicker methods than lethal injection or gas.
3. Deer hunting OK, but don’t equate deer with whales...or humans with animals (except the feral street kind).
Hypocracy is an ugly thing. You arent to the right of Reagan and Deer and whales are meat. Period. If you want to pretend they are Free Willy, thats on you.
Then the Japanese should close, board and seize the Sea Shepherd and any other ships used by that group.
I still remember when the French botched the sinking of the RAINBOW WARRIOR years ago.
The bombs planted were supposed to go off at sea, they went off in the harbor.

Funny thing happened forty years ago in Oklahoma City. I was driving toward Tulsa when a car blew past me at a very high rate of speed.
On top he had a huge plastic whale and on was written...”SAVE THE WHALES! BOYCOTT JAPANESE PRODUCTS!”
He was driving a Japanese Datsun (Nissan).
Bob Barker supplies million$ too.
That was a group of Greenpeaceniks that trespassed on an offshore drilling platform.
Ping for later.
Good news. Watson is nothing more than an enviro-nazi, a jerk and has committed acts of piracy. If I recall he’s also a wanted man that is hiding out.
I have never seen this news. That is a big deal, if true.
Oh, yeah. Birds of a feather and all that.
Come on. You still believe that? Seriesly.

One can clearly see the Ady Gill accelerate into the Japanese ship. The prop wash is the tell. Piloted by that Pete guy that later boarder a Japanese ship and was tried for it, broke down and cried for mercy from the court.
