I like your post on a lot of levels,
but especially “I command you with no authority”
and “we got plenty of dumbasses here”...
:)
Really? I think I watched one episode.
What do they owe me?
Your use of the verb tense "was touching" is typical of the exaggerations on these threads. "Was touching" implies an indefinite length of time, which could be interpreted as years; when the factual reports indicate he "touched" the 4- or 5-year old on one occasion, which was the final occasion that got him removed from the house and into the training center. I am not excusing the behavior; but let's stick to the documented facts. You weren't there. This country has a standard of "innocent until proven guilty."
I am horrified at the number of so-called conservatives that want the government to interfere at the first whiff of trouble, and not only interfere, but absolutely destroy a teenager and his family, instead of upholding the family's right to discipline and correct their teenager. That goes for your friend's babysitter as well. What were those parents thinking, asking a boy to babysit a little girl? "Lead me not into temptation" goes both ways.
This was a home-schooled kid age 14, which in some precincts is still middle-school, who was his idealistic parents' first kid. Obviously they did not give pre-puberty instructions to him and all the children about what to expect and what they expected of them; and he came to them for help and they did not get it until strike three. (I read that they subsequently did have all the younger children instructed professionally about "good and bad touch" and reporting.)
However, I still think they handled it in-family-of-origin and it is prurient and self-defeating for conservatives to start begging the government to destroy this man, who now has his own family and their future because of an ignorant phase in his teenage years in which his parent's ignorant, idealistic negligence played a part. He did not rape or cause physical pain of any kind, and two of the sisters claim they didn't even know about it until they were told by their parents. Yet people on this forum are actiing like he kidnapped, raped and murdered.
There are four main camps of persons who can't stop obsessing about this situation:
1) Christophobes and Christian haters who absolutely reject the ideas of universal culpability, or of individual confession, recovery and redemption;
2) persons who have a history of more serious sexual abuse and have not come to terms with it;
3) liberals and lo-infos who want government to run every aspect of every life; and
4) gossips who enjoy defaming other people with loose talk.
I did not know that. So sorry to hear it! RIP
It doesn’t matter that he was home-schoooled. Lots of homeschooled kuds go to our church, and I can assure you that the 14 year olds know that touching a little kid is wrong.
Since he was a repeat offender, if he were my son I would not have him in my house with my daughters.
We have friends whose son was a repeat offender drug user at 15. They have a young daughter. They sent him away to a boarding school that handles kids like him. It was a ranch, and he had to work and go to school.
Well, he got off the drugs and just passed the ranger training for the army.
It was horrible on his parents when they sent him away, but I’m convinced it saved his life.
Josh needed something similar. He needed away from that environment and real psychological help with his problem.
My main gripe here is that the media are fueling a politically convenient demonization that generalizes outward from one male with a problem to an indictment of all Christians, conservatives, breeders, etc. There are so many keyboard warriors ready to pounce these days; but there are real people on the receiving end being devastated. I continue to have real concern for the other children as well.
Clearly, the parents should have stopped the public exposure of their vulnerable children long ago.
Smart ones; too!
