A hundred pipe bands an' a' head for Forres

MORE than 100 pipe bands will be on their way to Moray next month, for this year’s Piping At Forres festival, which includes the European Pipe Band Championships.

The vast majority of the 105 bands signed up are from Scotland, but bands will also be coming from Belgium, England, the Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland for the event on Saturday 27th June in the town’s Grant Park.

They include 11 Grade 1 bands, among them current Grade 1 European champions, last year’s winners Inveraray and District Pipe Band.

To appeal to younger visitors, attractions on the day include a funfair, bouncy castle and other inflatables, while new for 2015, the STV Appeal is providing a new area for children to try a range of different activities while raising funds for children and young people in Scotland affected by poverty.

There is also chance have a go at the pipes and drums in the Education Centre, supported by the Gordon and Ena Baxter Foundation or take part in the World Tattie Scone Championship, now in its third year.

Some 100 stalls will be set up around the park and in the retail and craft villages, including a Johnstons of Elgin sponsored craft tent, and in Scotland’s Year of Food and Drink, a food and drink village.

For adults, a Scottish gin bar has been added to the festival’s five beer tents.

I remember that article. The boarder guards destroyed the young boys pipes even though they had documentation for the ivory going back several decades. Make no mistake: many government official do not like Americans.

I came across this a while back. "British Army Bands Celebrate Armed Forces Day 2014" Enjoy!! FYI..They do "Scotland The Brave" at the end..

IMHO, the absolutely most stirring rendition of "Scotland The Brave" was in "The Devil's Brigade" It's just a perfect 5 minutes. Again, enjoy!!
