Witnesses: Semi-automatic gunfire dominated biker shootout in Waco

First came a few pistol shots, several witnesses said, then a barrage of rifle fire during the shootout last month at a Waco restaurant favored by bikers. But authorities still have not said how many of the dead and wounded were the result of police fire.
Police have identified only one assault weapon, a semi-automatic gun that fires high-powered ammunition, among the firearms confiscated from bikers, and that was found in a locked car after the shooting ended.

One more thing. In TX, JPs set bond amounts. If there was any change that DA was not on sound legal ground, every defendants’ lawyer would be at the next higher level, the circuit court I believe, asking for a habeas corpus release.
Habeas corpus actions, appeals for delay of execution and court orders for emergency medical care are the three things a state court hears most quickly.
It tells us a lot that none has been granted, and I don’t think even filed!

Why are all held on murder now? Unless I missed it in today's news, no murder charge has been placed.
Have you looked at the authority and actual role of what is permitted for a Texas JP? What I read indicated that a criminal case of this magnitude should have not come to him.
Granted it was Sunday, but when Monday dawned, why did not the real Judges get it sorted out - require proper affidavits instead of 174 duplicates and actual charges rather that this mass racketeering charge on all ?

The pic you've posted of the guy with the FA rifle and cowboy boots gave me pause...and still does. He's military trained..no doubt in my mind.
What was he doing 30-40 minutes prior?
Where was he?

Oh yes - habeas has been filed by some and hearings set way out there. It’s a pity that there is so little journalism these days. I am relying just on memory. It has been reported that a defense atty sought to have more real judges assigned to expedite but was shot down.
They are slow walking the thing to my way of thinking. Cui bono with dat?

Your son is a USMC fast mover driver? Work in process. Intermediate flight school at Corpus. Still maybe a year or more until he joins the fleet. It has been a real thrill to follow his journey.

Many tests have been made...pro's and billhilly's....
One, if skilled can shoot a pump shotgun..just as fast as a semi-auto shotgun.

Yep. I have a number of friends who can, with single-action pistols, pump shotguns where they can
only load one shotgun round at a time, and lever-action rifle, moving from place to place (NOT from a fixed stance, in other words), fire ten pistol rounds, ten rifle rounds, and four shotgun rounds -- MOVING from one spot to another when switching from pistols to rifle to shotgun --
-- hitting all those targets, in less than 18 seconds.
So you're standing there going, "Wha ...? Huh?"

I don't mean you, I mean
I'm standing there going, "Whuh ...? All four shotgun targets are down? But I only heard two rounds go off ..."!
But then again, I have particular affinity for my beloved side-by-side. I like pumps, too, but ... I dearly love my Stoger coach!

You do realize assault rifle's..for us peons generally means semi-auto. Although you can own a select fire M-16 or something else...if you want. But prepare to pay up!!
The Feds, and most... I gather bigger city PD's have select fire rifles.

Had there been any technical or jurisdictional problems with JPs, would have been removed up long before this.
Remember, TX law, like Louisiana law, can be very different than other jurisdictions.

Part of Swantons CV from
National Institute of Crime Prevention (emphasis mine)
During the next four years, Swanton was assigned to the Special Operations Unit (S.W.A.T. Team) where he became certified as a Crisis Negotiator. Swanton has attended many courses in negotiation and holds basic through advanced certificates in Crisis Intervention. Sgt. Swanton is currently the team leader over the Crisis Intervention Unit. While in Special Operations he furthered his training by attending a course provided by the National Guard on helicopter assaults and courses on basic through advanced S.W.A.T. Team Tactics. While in Special Operations Swanton was also involved in the aftermath at Mount Carmel and was awarded the Police Commendation bar along with his other teammates for their involvement.
So, Swanton and ATF people are likely no strangers.
