GOP open to extending ObamaCare subsidies
The Hill ^ | 06/04/15 06:00 AM EDT | By Peter Sullivan

House conservatives are hinting at support for a temporary extension of Obama-Care subsidies if the Supreme Court cripples the law, even as they set up a working group to develop their own plan.

The high court is set to rule later this month in the case of King v. Burwell, which could invalidate subsidies for millions of people in at least 34 states using the federally run marketplace. Republicans say they need to be ready to address people losing their coverage, but have yet to coalesce around a plan.

Now another proposal is in the works. Members of the conservative House Freedom Caucus told The Hill they are setting up a group of four or five lawmakers, led by Rep. John Fleming (R-La.). The lawmakers will develop a plan meant to influence the main House working group led by Rep. Paul Ryan (R-Wis.) and two other panel chairmen, which Fleming complained is meeting in “secret.”

One should not underestimate either the evil genius of those who wrote the bill, knowing Republicans could not resist donations from "Big Pharma", nor the utter lack of principle held by any member of that party.

Remember: Republicans HATE YOU and WANT TO DESTROY YOU!

Temporary. Yeah, right. Only the Republican base would be stupid enough to believe that.

How do these people carry the name conservative? Even Levin says that perhaps if we get a real Conservative as President next year he can accomplish conservative goals with a Republican House and Senate. If we get a President Cruz or Walker he will NOT have a Republican House and Senate. One way or another he will have a Democrat Congress in opposition to everything useful he tries to do. Either the current Republicans will still be under the control of the Democrat Party or there will be no Republican majority in either house after November 2016 because after the results of 2016 many conservatives simply will not vote for congressional Republicans. I won't. Why should they? They only get enhanced Democrat majorities when they do get Republican "control" of Congress. Even Cruz gave away the store on trade Iran. If he has to cave then who won't?

I am offended that they would insinuate a conservative would propose this shit. Republicrat, sure... conservative? Not a chance.

OH PLEASE!!! The Supreme Court lead by little Jonny Roberts, he of the “its not a tax on Tuesday but is on Wednesday” fame, will never invalidate any part of that law. They will twist themselves into a new brand of pretzel to uphold that thing. Tawney, I mean Roberts, has already said that it is a political matter and Dredd Scott is property, I mean ObamaCare is for the politicians to solve. Constitutionality!?!? Pfffft, that is so reserved for upholding gay marriage, not unimportant things like taking over the healthcare of the citizenry and transferring wealth.

“GOP open to extending ObamaCare subsidies”

Well fool us a million times. They PROMISED they’d repeal Obamacare.

Dear All...here is what Boner said in the aftermath of the 2014 election:

In his first press conference since Republicans won the Senate and captured their largest House majority in decades, House Speaker John Boehner laid out an agenda that included authorizing the Keystone pipeline, addressing a “broken” tax code and repealing the president’s signature healthcare law.

Remember that as you hear about Trade Promotion Authority (not an issue that any of them ran on) or Amnesty (which they have done less then nothing about).

Extending the subsidies with a sunset in two years, in trade for eliminating the individual and employer mandates, is a really good political path to take.

It gets Conservatives off the hook for doing nothing in the face of millions losing their healthcare, while putting Democrats into a lose-lose position of either being the ones to block the subsidies OR accepting revisions (killing the mandates) that will put Obamacare into a death spiral.

Why compromise when they can have it all?

What's so politically astute about lying to and betraying those who elected you?

I call BS.

They are running scared. They know that when people lose their subsidies. the press is ready to jump on all the sob stories about people who lost their health insurance due to evil Republicans.

Never mind that the cost of Obamacare premiums were going to skyrocket this year, that the deductibles are absurdly high, and that doctors are quitting and hospitals closing.

Actually Obamacare was a winner for leftists especially if it fails. That way, when people clamor for government to fix what it screwed up, the leftists can say there is no other option but single payer. It was all part of the plan, and the sheeple are too dumb to figure it out.

So, Obama and the dems ram through a new entitlement with ZERO republican support in the middle of the night and now, in the event the SC calls Obama on illegally making the taxpayers pay for millions of people’s health insurance premiums, the gritty GOP finds it necessary to continue the redistribution of wealth program? There has to be a better way.

The GOPe, responding to the beck and call of their Wall Street / Globalist overlords. Privatize the profits, socialize the costs. That's the ticket, and that is what the GOPe will do.

Short term vs long term.

You can certainly “have it all” in the short term by doing nothing. With the long-term consequences being a Dem White House and Senate, and probably a Dem House of Reps, in 2017.

And there will be long term consequences for taking the short term path. You simply cannot stand by and allow millions to “lose” health care without also losing their votes, the votes of their friends and families, and the votes of the gullable who will be innundated with all sob (excuse me, “human interest” stories) that the MSM will flood the country with.

There needs to be a good understanding that Obamacare was deliberately designed with all sorts of mechanisms to cause enormous political pain for anyone who tries to roll it back. Just like with any entitlement, the millions who are now hooked on it’s dependency will need to be weaned off, rather than subjected to going cold turkey.
