When exactly did it become cool to be gay???

For years, we have been told we need to be tolerant, that we need to live and let live, that we need to accept that people are gay ,and just be tolerant of other lifestyles.

But now, it seems that it is actually a positive or cool thing to be gay. We’re not just tolerating homosexuality, we are actually celebrating it. When exactly did this happen???

When exactly did it become cool to be gay???

Certainly it was after I was in high school (1960s), at which time you would be accused of being queer (I don't think the term "gay" had come into vogue yet) if you wore green on a Thursday.
