Authorities seized almost 1,200 birds as they broke up an alleged cockfighting ring in western Wisconsin.
The American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals helped authorities remove the birds from four properties in Polk and St. Croix counties.
Authorities executed search warrants to seize the birds Tuesday morning. The ASPCA says cockfighting paraphernalia was discovered on the properties, including a fighting pit and gaffs - long, dagger-like attachments used to maximum injury to birds.
Tim Rickey, a lead investigator, said, "It's a very lucrative industry, there's a lot of money involved in raising and selling of birds and the fights and gambling."

I try not to be negative, but one thing about Mexican culture that I absolutely despise is their cruelty toward animals. I think anyone who promotes, abets, or attends such events is probably a bad enough person that if they were summarily executed, the world would not be worse off. JMHO.

Same here. I have nothing personal against Mexican people. I find many of them to be good hardworking and law-abiding people. In gact my son is dating one who is very Americanized and a legal immigrant. Sh’s a very caring and loving gal and doesn’t even know how to speak Spanish if that tells you anything (her parents do). My only problem is the importation of the La Raza / gang variety en masse and forcing me to work more hours to pay for their freebies while they overburden our resources without paying taxes and overpopulate our nation. It IS a legitimate gripe they can’t argue with.

Seriously, cockfighting still exists in the South where I live, but among Wisconsin natives? No way, this is a foreign import.
