During his final broadcast as host of CBS Face the Nation, Bob Schieffer pressed likely Republican presidential contender Jeb Bush on his willingness to embrace positions to the left of many candidates already vying for the partys nomination. Bush defended his views, suggesting the primary process would be more effective if all candidates expressed their true intentions instead of pandering to the GOPs conservative base.
I think people are so disaffected and so cynical about politicians and politics, he said, they dont want to hear someone say, well Im for this and immediately shift back to another position for the general election.
Bush then brought up one issue for which he has already received serious flak from conservatives.
I have views that are different than some in our party, he said, and thats what well sort out if Im a candidate. Im not going to back down on views on immigration, for example.
Schieffer asked Bush if he still supports a pathway toward legal status for millions of illegal immigrants currently living in the U.S.
Im for a path to legalized status, he acknowledged, where people get a provisional work permit, where they pay taxes, pay a fine, learn English, dont commit crimes, dont receive federal government assistance, and where they earn legal status. They dont earn citizenship, they dont cut in line with people who have been patiently waiting on the outside.
He went on to deliver a public message for anyone who claims his plan is tantamount to amnesty.
Those who are opposed to that or call that amnesty dont have a plan really to deal with the 11 million people who are here illegally, he said.
The host then asked Bush repeatedly whether he would revoke Barack Obamas executive orders on immigration should he become president.

God I so hope the headline is true. Sure hope to God it turns out that way.
I will sit my ass home if TPTB choose him as the front runner. Same goes for any other RINO.
I’m done.
Jeb Bush will the best President that Mexico ever had.
how he gets any percentage of the vote in the polls is beyond me.
I’m so disappointed by congress that I am with you. I wish a new party was formed. I don’t recognize the differences anymore, like Cruz said.
> Those who are opposed to that or call that amnesty dont have a plan really to deal with the 11 million people who are here illegally, he said.
Here’s the plan: ENFORCE THE LAW: DEPORT
I can respect him for coming out and saying this, makes it so much easier to cross him off my list (not that he was ever really on it).
Jebbie, go home to your mamma who treats Slick Willie as “her son.” Go home to your adopted brother Jebbie. You will never be president. But please persevere, it is wonderful to see a fool waste so much of other RHINO’S money.
Yep.
Yeah, and the queer wants to “raise taxes to protect social security”.
Those who are opposed to that or call that amnesty dont have a plan really to deal with the 11 million people who are here illegally,
Dear Jebster, you are WRONG.
1. All individuals, companies, corporations, business shall use E-Verify to verify the qualification of every employee to work in the United States.
2. Any individual, company, corporation, or business that is caught employing an undocumented alien shall be fined $50,000 per day per illegal employee.
3. All persons caught inside the United States illegally after 3 months from passage of this bill shall be permanently barred from entry into the United States for any reason.
Problem solved.
Who is it that likes him?
At least he’s not lying about his intentions unlike other Republicans
I don't vote for liars.
Why is he still talking. Bush go away!
“I will sit my ass home if TPTB choose him as the front runner. Same goes for any other RINO.
Im done.”
I’m done too. And in retrospect neither of the other Booshes (and I voted for both of them) at the end of the day were very good presidents, and the last one “gave us” Obola.
Where does he get the 11 million, it has not been that low for years, wayyyyy more jebbie.
I appreciate his concern for the workers. Not all of us got to be on Barclay’s Board of Directors because of family ties.
