What Jeb Bush Just Said About Immigration May Sink His Ship Before It Sets Sail
Western Journalism ^ | 6/1/15 | B. Christopher Agee

During his final broadcast as host of CBS’ Face the Nation, Bob Schieffer pressed likely Republican presidential contender Jeb Bush on his willingness to embrace positions to the left of many candidates already vying for the party’s nomination. Bush defended his views, suggesting the primary process would be more effective if all candidates expressed their true intentions instead of pandering to the GOP’s conservative base.

“I think people are so disaffected and … so cynical about politicians and politics,” he said, “they don’t want to hear someone say, well ‘I’m for this’ and immediately shift back to another position for the general election.”

Bush then brought up one issue for which he has already received serious flak from conservatives.

“I have views that are different than some in our party,” he said, “and that’s what we’ll sort out if I’m a candidate. I’m not going to back down on views on immigration, for example.”

Schieffer asked Bush if he still supports a pathway toward legal status for millions of illegal immigrants currently living in the U.S.

“I’m for a path to legalized status,” he acknowledged, “where people get a provisional work permit, where they pay taxes, pay a fine, learn English, don’t commit crimes, don’t receive federal government assistance, and where they earn legal status. They don’t earn citizenship, they don’t cut in line with people who have been patiently waiting on the outside.”

He went on to deliver a public message for anyone who claims his plan is tantamount to amnesty.

“Those who are opposed to that or call that amnesty don’t have a plan really to deal with the 11 million people who are here illegally,” he said.

The host then asked Bush repeatedly whether he would revoke Barack Obama’s executive orders on immigration should he become president.

Who is it that likes him?

I am breaking out into a cold sweat thinking back to 2008 when Juan McLame won the GOP nomination. I despise him but by the time of the CA primary, it was all over. All that needs to happen is that the conservatives tear each other to pieces. Plus the GOP establishment is already trying to rig the game. A couple of weeks ago Rubio allies in the Florida legislature made their primary a state-wide winner take all. This is an almost certain win for one of these two Amnesty loving RINOs.

In 2008 and 2012, you'd have to look hard to find Republicans who supported McCain or Romney, much less were enthusiastic about either, but somehow they still won the GOP nominations. The same was true for Dole in 1996.

How do they win the nomination? Mainly on account of the fact that the conservative alternatives are split among a half-dozen candidates, so that all it takes is a small plurality to secure the nomination.

Winner (plurality) take all states don't help either.

Because Graham said it the day he announced.

Why, are there others?

If enough conservatives followed this proposal, the insiders would have to take notice of how many conservative votes their candidate lost.

In 1992, Ross Perot got almost 19% of the popular vote, as Bush 41 was swamped by the degenerate Clinton. Tell us please how much notice was taken by the party insiders in 1996?

Please consider just what would be involved in rounding up 11,000,000 people including the elderly and children, verifying legally that they are illegal, and arranging food and transport for them, as well as dealing with the fact that quite a few are probably home, business or other property owners. Can anyone provide a dollar estimate of exactly how much this whole process would cost, not to mention whether all the return countries would even allow it.

Please consider how many of those 11 million people would be left to deal with if we first a.) enforced existing workplace rules and b.) refused to provide welfare to illegal aliens.

If Bush is the nominee than it makes little difference whether you vote Democrat or Republican.

One can’t tell whether the Perot voters were Democrats or Republican voters. Likewise, it is not certain what drove the voters into the Perot camp. But what the Republican insiders certainly did not do was draw the proper conclusions to this day. By writing in a conservative name there is only one conclusion the dim-witted GOP leaders can draw.

Well, he “accidentally” checked the wrong box on his voting form, too.

Or something like that.

where people get a provisional work permit, where they pay taxes, pay a fine, learn English, don’t commit crimes, don’t receive federal government assistance, and where they earn legal status.

So, an illegal would have to show a tax return, pay a fine, pass an english test, have a clean record and not be on the dole. If they do all of that, then they have to give up their free healthcare and sign up for Obamacare. Sounds like deal to me!

Somehow I don't see illegals lining up for this.
