Matt Bevin will be the Republican Gubernatorial nominee this fall in Kentucky.
This surprising conclusion of a bitter, four-person primary took a lot by surprise. Most notably, Mitch McConnell. McConnell handily defeated Bevin last year in the Kentucky Senate primary. Many Tea Party members wrote Bevin off as a bad candidate. McConnell moved on to score a thumping of Alison Lundergan Grimes in the general election. Bevin was pretty much a memory.
Throughout the Gubernatorial race Bevin held third place. Then, at the 11th hour, the two front runners, James Comer and Hal Heiner became embroiled in a mud slinging exhibition. It was one of the dirtiest races in Kentucky history!
A lot of voters stayed home. In fact Republican turnout totaled only 17%. But Bevin's people did show up. In the end, he had an 83 vote lead, which held after recanvassing the votes.
McConnell has come forth with a lip service endorsement. But, there was some bad blood between camps! It seems that Matt Bevin was actually born in Colorado, and grew up in rural Northern New Hampshire. McConnell positioned him as an "east coast con man" from Connecticut during the primary.
Matt Bevin is an investment banker who moved to Louisville in 1999. Is he all the things that McConnell said? We'll find out! What we know for certain is that his Democrat opponent, Jack Conway is seen as "Andrew Cuomo South.!"
How Bevin does in the general election in Kentucky could be a bellwether for things to come in America. If he wins, Kentucky can say a Tea Party candidate some consider "slightly to the right of Rand Paul,"defeated a rank in file Establishment Democrat.

PFL
We have some friends who live in Kentucky. They are both quite conservative - despise Obama and all the crap he’s done while in office, etc.
At least one of them — the male half of the couple, who’s a rough-tough ex-NY policeman — told us of his intention to vote for McConnell in the last election.
Haven’t asked him how that’s workin’ out...
As opposed to the hometown con man McConnell, who plays conservative during election time, and then gets the republican party in the senate to pass all of the democrat agenda.
That would be “Rank AND file”.
Thumping Alison would be a great name for a rock band
Mitch is nothing but a DC insider! He is so stuck on DC way that he should run as what he really is a Demoncrat for VA!
If he wins, Kentucky can say a Tea Party candidate some consider “slightly to the right of Rand Paul,”defeated a rank in file Establishment Democrat.
...
Rand Paul is a Libertarian nut like his father. He isn’t to the right of anything.
Mitch is nothing but a DC insider!
...as a Uniparty leader, he would prefer a Dem to any conservative. That wasn’t an accident that he said he would “crush” any Tea Party candidate and will work with the Dems against Bevin.... shades of Mississippi, all under the radar. Smash the Post Turtle!
“McConnell positioned [Bevin] as an “east coast con man””
McConnell is the biggest con man out there.
“That would be Rank AND file.”
Correct. Saying “rank in file” is like saying “one in the same.”
Matt Bevin’s family owns a bell factory in East Hampton, Connecticut. East Hampton is called the bell city.
True, we are making inroads in traditional red states and even in blue states like Maine and Connecticut.
Mitch “Root and Branch” McConnell knows a con man when he sees one - he sees one every time he looks in the mirror. We’re still waiting for him to pull out obamacare “root and branch.”
“Evangelicals are often fairly vanilla. They aren’t necessarily the politically enlightened.”
Colorful line, but quite accurate. The Dems have managed to get them thinking that they have to follow the Global Warming agenda as part of their “stewards of the planet” philosophy. Next up is Gay Marriage. They’re hitting them with the “out of touch” line, regarding their flocks - support gay marriage or no next generation.
Not to mention their really weird attraction to Huckabee.
