LEXINGTON After coming up well short of knocking off U.S. Sen. Mitch McConnell in 2014, Secretary of State Alison Lundergan Grimes is looking at her re-election bid as an interview for the job, and not a personal contest.
Grimes faces GOP nominee Steve Knipper in the fall Election and she says she will rely on her experience in the office and focus on jobs in the General Election campaign.
Its an office where I have a record of success, Grimes told Pure Politics in Lexington on Wednesday. Whether it be helping to have started over 100,000 new businesses since Ive been Secretary of State or helping to break down the barriers to our ballot box. The record that we have is delivering for the people of Kentucky.
Grimes says that her resolve to help Kentuckians is stronger after her unsuccessful U.S. Senate run against McConnell. She said the one thing that the experience did was to allow her passion for the state to grow.
The work that we did over the course of the past two years only made that resolve stronger, Grimes said. To know from north, south, east to west, the people of the state, theyre worth fighting for and, most importantly, being in public service, its worth it to hopefully help deliver some great things for the people of Kentucky.

They never give up, do they?
So Grimes isn’t going to run for Governor?
She claims to have “helped start 100,000 new businesses” in Kentucky as part of her Secretary of State job. What specifically did SHE do to create these jobs?
The paperwork arrived at her office and she filed it away. That’s something, isn’t?
No way. Not unless she tells who she voted for in the last election.
The paperwork arrived at her office and she filed it away. Thats something, isnt it? That’s something that makes her uniquely qualified.
Oh, and let’s not forget, she was also able to do this without showing up for work much of the time. Extraordinary, unmatched talent.
And I expect it was a civil service worker who actually processed those applications (or licenses or whatever), mailed back any approvals with Grime's signature being “signed” by an auto-pen. The clerks likely produced periodic reports and when Grimes saw the report in her in-basket (actual physical or email inbox) with the counts she probably said “So THIS is what I've been doing, creating all these new businesses. Damn, I'm good!”.
It saddens me to say but she won’t even have to lift a finger to get re-elected. Good thing, too, since she must be simply exhausted after creating those 100k jobs.

Well, there’s her opponent. I don’t know how he’ll do with fundraising but she should be beatable with her negatives. I really can’t believe a top-tier candidate didn’t jump into that race. He has a poll posted indicating the race is tied.
It will probably come down to how well the top of the ticket does since that race appears right below it.
“Oh, and lets not forget, she was also able to do this without showing up for work much of the time. “
True, but think about how well she would do if she actually shows up - at least until the next higher political office opens up.
“I saw that also. I’ll bet there aren’t 100,000 companies in KY. “
Perhaps - but half of them are small meth labs, and many of those don’t file.
No, she did not file to run for governor and was re-nominated by the Democrats in the primary to run for SOS.
Jack Conway is the Democrat who won the gubernatorial primary. He lost to Rand Paul for Senate in 2010 and for the House in 2002 to Anne Northup. He is the current attorney general as he had opponents in those races who were vastly underfunded and also weak GOP candidates for governor headed the ticket those years.
