Capitalism threatens all life on the planet - Interview with Professor Guy McPherson
The Peoples Voice ^ | 5/25/14 | Dylan Murphy

**SNIP**

Professor Garrett makes the controversial point that carbon dioxide emissions, which are a major cause of runaway climate change, can only be stabilized by a complete collapse of the global industrial economy or society builds the equivalent of one nuclear reactor per day.

"Stabilization of carbon dioxide emissions at current rates will require approximately 300 gigawatts of new non-carbon-dioxide-emitting power production capacity annually - approximately one new nuclear power plant (or equivalent) per day," Garrett says. "Physically, there are no other options without killing the economy."

Every week new scientific reports are published that note how industrial civilization is driving us towards catastrophic climate change. Last week the the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, NOAA, announced that March was the first month to surpass global carbon dioxide levels of 400 parts per million since measurements began. This is driving us towards the 2 degree rise in temperature that is seen by many as the upper limit for the planet. In the same week a new study was published in Nature Climate Change which reveals that sea level rise rates are speeding up. This poses a threat to the one billion people who live along shore lines around the world.

I spoke to Guy McPherson who is professor emeritus of natural resources and the environment at the University of Arizona, where he taught for twenty years. He is the author of a dozen books and has had hundreds of articles published on the consequences of our fossil fuel addiction: catastrophic climate change leading to near term human extinction. Guy lives in an off the grid straw bale house where he practices sustainable organic farming and working with members of his local community where a gift economy is in operation.

How does he find the time to pimp worthless books?

Mr. McPherson seems absorbed in his fantasy.

“How does he find the time to pimp worthless books?”

How did this idiot become a Professor?

You, professor and your ilk, can help solve the problem by becoming room temperature.

If he really thinks so, then he should be willing to let people of lesser income come into his home and take what they need, after all, “to each according to his needs”

And when will Professor McPherson move into his unheated, non-airconditioned, no electricity one room cabin riding his bike back and forth to work?

How many trees were killed, energy used and so forth, to print and distribute his “books”?

Now this is the height of modern living and practicality. Amazing what you can do when you don’t have to work for a living.

Oh, and I hope he doesn’t bring a flame within a quarter mile of that fire trap.

Think about this......every human is unique. Even identical twins can turn out to hold differing viewpoints, ambitions and ideas.

If you can tap into that INDIVIDUALITY and unleash it, amazing things happen....innovation, creativity and progress all flourish

Our Founders knew this and created a gov’t that unleashes the INDIVIDUAL through liberty.

Capitalism is the natural extension of individual liberty. Capitalism allows the INDIVIDUAL to pursue their dreams, test their ideas and create the next great advancement.

When the individual is suppressed, creativity ceases. Forced grouping of individuals fails to elicit the dynamic processes that spur individual invention.

Look at medicine. Medicine is imperfect because it treats people as groups, not as individuals. That is what we hope to get by having a personal physician. Take that away and you have treatments that will fail more than succeed.

The same diet will not make all people thin. The First Lady thinks a one size fits all lunch will satisfy children with both high and low metabolisms.

But that is what socialism does....creates a one size fits all government, economy and liberty.....which ALWAYS results in failure.

Tucson and the University of Arizona are very liberal. This guy's a nutcase who has spent twenty years enclosed in a cage for nut cases. No wonder he thinks the way he does. He's removed from the reality of the world in a liberal ivory tower. Try living in a hay bale house in any town or city in the country. Not going to happen.

This just confirms my belief about the climate change crowd. It's not about the environment, CO2 levels, or the planet. It's about destroying capitalism so they can institute socialism/communism as the economic system.

Do these idiots listen to what they say and not know they sound like....well....idiots?

Living in a fantasy world seems to be a requirement now. In this case it is necessary for him to forget all about the environmental destruction under Socialism. Little things like rivers in Red China that can’t even support carp.

We have had our problems, but prosperity creates a demand by the public for a cleaner environment. If you go to the rich area of town you won’t see trash blowing down the streets, the people who live there won’t tolerate it. However if you go to the poor section trash is everywhere.

“Runaway climate change” is the major phantom terrorizing this vastly overcredentialed Guy McPherson, and it is not possible. Even if carbon dioxide rose to ten times its current planet-wide levels, neither the atmospheric temperatures nor the mortality of animal life would be noticeably affected.

Plant growth, on the other hand, would be greatly accentuated, and the profusion that followed would blanket the well-watered portions of the planet everywhere. Even in the depths of the ocean and major sources and tributaries of water, the plant growth would proliferate to an astounding degree, perhaps even RAISING the oxygen content of a atmosphere by some small amount.

You understand, of course, that oxygen is the second most corrosive element in the Universe, and large quantities of elemental oxygen may itself present a serious hazard. Think of how brightly things shall blaze if they catch fire, or how quickly metallic elements would turn to corrosion and crumble in a high-oxygen environment.

Or maybe, life has already evolved and is adapted perfectly to those conditions.

Garrett says. “Physically, there are no other options without killing the economy.”

Actually, he is partially correct. The global warming nuts do not want to recognize this truth. If they are correct, that mankind is causing global warming, then they do have two options. Either they can build a reactor a day or they can crash the global economy.

Of course, I said “if they are correct” and I believe even they know they are not. Otherwise, they’d be building reactors.

Ah, but the bike would be manufactured by a company, an evil capitalist company. He should have to walk back and forth to work in footwear made by himself of straw leftover from his hay house. And having grown up for years in the Sonoran Desert in Arizona, it is the hottest place in the country, short of maybe Death Valley. The summers can be brutal. I wonder how his commute would go without capitalism of some kind to sustain him?

And where did the hay for his house come from? Baled hay is cut and baled by capitalist made machinery. Again this guy is a far-Left nut job.
