Derision, rather than refutation, seems to be the norm of discourse in mainstream politics as well. Accordingly, opposing views are seen as a sign of some moral defect, not genuine disagreement. Earlier this year, for example, a prominent Democrat compared delaying the confirmation of Loretta Lynch as attorney general (shes the first African-American woman to be given the role) to Jim Crow segregation. Elsewhere, questioning certain sexual-assault statistics makes one a rape apologist; proponents of traditional marriage are dismissed as bigots; and even President Obama is called sexist for arguing with Senator Elizabeth Warren about a trade bill (he called her Elizabeth).
Progressives think their vitriolic name-calling undermines their opponents. But Munger has it right: The absence of [dissent] is harmful, not so much to those who would agree with the dissenting voice, but to those who are thus denied the chance to collide with error.
A recent study suggests the Republican Party is the strongest it has been in decades. Should this trend continue, should liberals lose the minds and hearts of Americans, should prejudice not die but fester, then progressives need only look in the mirror to find whom to blame.

When they start losing the ability to breathe, I will celebrate.
There is a kernel of truth here, that used to be commonly known within Christendom. Everybody is a sinner.
This does not mean we cannot exhort concerning sin. It means we must be sincere and humble, keeping God as the reference point rather than our own performance, which may in fact be pitifully poor. And if our own performance is dismal enough it is better to wait until we know something more about how God’s grace deals with the problem, before we advise others.
Tell me something new. Freerepublic was ahead of times in dismissing trolls who do not discuss the subject but switch to personal attacks, like retarded immature kids who cannot make the grade on the subject in class and say the teacher sucjpk or harass students who understand the subject.
Liberals are inherent criminals by their being stubborn on being dunces in class, only using cutes and bumper sticker statements.
They change from studying and educating themselves on the subject to being so thin skinned butt hurt, they switch to personal attacks and prosecuting whomever made a netter point, calling them names, hypocrite etx. Like typical cowards and immature school dunces who cannot make the grade in the topic.
Obama is TROLL CENTRAL.
Hey, it’s always fun to escalate....
(especially when you’re right...;)
We’re just not paying attention to the banal and adolescent tactics anymore.
“Keep up with me Francis or I’ll mistake you for a braying ass...”
LIEberals do not argue!
They LIE!
Maybe pigs will start flying.
I’m not arguing, I’m telling why I’m right.
Unfortunately for the leftists they learn from, you can't stop young people from noticing the world around them, and the vague notion that whats happening doesn't fit their professor's narrative.
They don’t have any knowledge to use in discussions, yet they have a lot of rage and self importance, and so they react, and attack.
That is why no matter the topic, you know how the attempt to talk to them will end.
They believe that they have won. “Arguing” by them was never genuine. It was a way to obscure their goals when they were weak.
Now, they are done with it.
They plan to make their move, and soon.
“Young American liberals are losing the ability to argue”
So are conservatives, in my opinion.
I was having a “discussion” on guns and gun control with a lib niece. When I finally said she should put a sign on her house saying that it was “gun free”, she finally shut up.
Libs believe they’ve won the debate if they talk louder than you or talk over you. O’Reily does it quite often.
Funny, I’ve done the exact same thing.
Why are they having problems learning to argue when nearly everyone now believes in liberalism of one type or another?
The last election says the Republican Party is the strongest it’s been in decades as well.
In more than half a century of dealing with them, I’ve never noticed that they actually had the ability to argue. Dispute, yes. Argue, never.
