Carson could poke fun at anyone. Didn’t matter who they were, what color their skin was or what political party they belonged to. He was never nasty or mean spirited. And often some of his best zingers were aimed at himself.

Carson could poke fun at anyone. Didn’t matter who they were, what color their skin was or what political party they belonged to Carson cracked one too many jokes implying that Wayne Newton was queer. Newton marched into Carson's office and told him to knock it off or I kick your ass. Carson told no more Wayne Newton jokes after that.
