We must engage the global economy to ignite growth and opportunity at home
May 22, 2015 | 202-228-7561
WASHINGTON, D.C. - U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas), today released the following statement regarding legislation to establish trade promotion authority:
"The American middle class is getting crushed by the Obama economy," said Sen. Cruz. "Middle class incomes are stagnating, and the labor force participation rate has not been this low since the Carter Administration. While I have serious concerns about the all-too-typical Washington backroom deals that enabled this bill to get to the floor, I could not in good conscience vote against a bill whose most significant impacts will be jobs, growth, and opportunity for struggling American families.
"By passing Trade Promotion Authority, we create a path for trade agreements to reduce government-created barriers to prosperity. More economic growth will expand opportunity to those working to climb the economic ladder and achieve the American Dream.
"This bill increases the transparency of trade deals considered under its rules. It requires the public posting of the full text of any such agreement for at least 60 days before Congress begins consideration and reaffirms that Congress gets the final say. It would enable both this President and the next to expand trade that benefits American workers.
"This legislation ensures the United States will not be stuck on the sidelines as China aggressively pushes the 19 trade agreements it currently has under construction. It sends a message to the world that the United States will play an active role in writing the rules that will govern international trade this century. The cost to peace and prosperity of doing otherwise is too great to let this opportunity pass."

Then please explain the need for secrecy.
Exactly.
Ted, BULL CRAP!
Please ping the list to Senator’s Cruz’s explanation of his vote.
Cruz voting for a bill that was never available to be scrutinized by the public makes me think that all politicians are truly alike. F$ckin useless.
Frankly, this is one bill Senator Cruz should of taken a pass on. To give this administration more executive power over trade agreements is not a good move.
I have the very uneasy feeling this is all BULL ESCREMENT!
Odumbo does NOTHING, repeat NOTHING that is GOOD for American, only what is good for odumbo and his ilk.
We are so screwed thanks to the low information voters who have not once but twice elected that bastard.
There is no explanation that will satisfactorily explain secret legislation via a via Obamacare.
If it’s so great, let’s see what’s in it.
Worse, he cites a bunch of unproven or disputed claims about "free trade" , which actually just means free access to American consumers and Capital.
in 1993 the US had a trade surplus with Mexico of $1.6 billion. IN 2014 we ran a $60billion deficit.
20 years of NAFTA.
Let's examine the results of THIS REAL EXAMPLE and then, tell us Mr. Cruz, with a straight face, just how this gargantuan secret deal is going to be good for Americans and America.
Yeah, has even TED been in Washington too long now? This is excrement for which there is no perfume to mask the odor. Bob
Ted should take a freaking pass on EVERY bill advanced by Maobama. If Mao supports it, you KNOW it will be used to destroy America. Bob
Ted and the GOPs are pissing on our backs and telling us it’s rain.
Piss stinks and is warm, rain is sweet smelling and cool.
More firms are likely to head here after the passage of the TPP, they said, because it will reduce tariffs on Vietnamese exports to the US to near zero.
And they expect many more us factories to locate there with their cheaper than China labor and the near zero tariffs on goods shipped the US they expect under the TPP.
US firms move footwear factories to Vietnam ahead of TPP
That's how these trade agreements usually work: they make it easier to relocate US factories to cheap labor nations and they eliminate, or almost eliminate all tariffs when the American brand goods are shipped to the US.
Another NAFTA, which took our slightly favorable trade balance with Mexico to a $60 billion deficit.
And they've all been sold with this, open foreign markets to US goods and create jobs in America BS.
I’m very troubled by this.
Thanks for the ping.
CRUZ NO MORE!
Even Ted loses on this one. Should have read it first.
“Trade Promotion Authority Creates a Path for Prosperity -
Cruz”
Oh, THAT’s why Obama was given more power, it’s for OUR benefit.
