Coast Guard agrees to hold its fire on Great Lakes
Officials scrap plans for target practice with machine guns mounted on boats. Critics cited risks to sailors and lead pollution from bullets.

Environmental groups, meanwhile, noted that firing as many as 430,000 lead bullets a year on the lakes would add more pollution to an already fragile ecosystem. The Coast Guard would have become one of the largest sources of toxic lead dumped into the lakes, which supply drinking water to millions of people in the U.S. and Canada.

Not to mention the water level rise caused by all them there bullets being fired into the lake. Also, did they take into account the effect of the heat generated by firing all them there bullets?
