Fox News, which is hosting the first Republican debate of the 2016 campaign, will require participants to place in the top 10 in an average of the five most recent national polls in the run-up to the event, according to details obtained by The Washington Post Thursday.
The standard will winnow what is expected to be a field of 16 or more GOP presidential candidates by the Aug. 6 event in Cleveland.
Determining which contenders will get to participate in the official forums sanctioned by the Republican National Committee has been a thorny challenge for the cable news network and party officials. No GOP primary debate has ever featured more than 10 candidates.
The cable news channel plans to provide additional coverage and air time on Aug. 6 to the candidates who do not place in the top 10, according to a release obtained first by The Post.

So they’re already planning to force their own selected candidates on us.
I half expected FNC guidelines to go something like this - Cruz’s # - 1 = # debate participants.
-1
Poll packing has begun. Watch Cruz’s number wain.
I Do Not Trust Fox.
I hate all the other networks, but I still don’t trust Fox.
RINOs only!
Kelly and Wallace will certainly be pimping Jeb/Rubio. Don’t see Baier enough to know.
Amen.
Fox and RNC on trial.
Its Cruz or Cruz. Accept no substitutes.
Fox’s lineup should be Job Bush, Lindsay Graham, and Lincoln Chaffee.
Don’t forget Peter King and Jon Huntsman.
In their own polls is a euphemism
for “We will not put on Sen. Cruz,
since we bow to Mr. RomneyCARE and his
partner, George Soros.”
lol Of course they are. Now while I think there are WAY to many candidates, I’ve got even more problem with a news entertainment organization deciding who gets to debate.
But. The GOP e knows already who they want and I would need some pretty big odds to bet against them getting that individual.
I’d love to see Jebster miss out by being out of the top 10.
I know, it’s a dream...
FOX = GOPE/Liberals
Id guess Paul, huckster, Carson, Christie, Graham and maybe others will be out.
I personally think this is a good idea.
Cruz, Rubio, Bush, Walker, Paul and five others who are really just noise.
Poll | Date | Bush | Walker | Rubio | Paul | Huckabee | Cruz | Carson | Christie | Perry | Santorum | Kasich | Fiorina | Jindal | Graham | Spread |
---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
RCP Average | 4/16 - 5/12 | 15.4 | 13.2 | 13.2 | 9.2 | 8.6 | 8.6 | 7.8 | 5.4 | 2.4 | 2.3 | 2.0 | 1.3 | 1.3 | 1.3 | Bush +2.2 |
No, the current Republican candidate field is a stampede, not a pool.
I bet Sweet Linda Graham does not make the top 10.
