A Kansas furniture store owner is closing up shop and leaving town, but not before he tells other residents what he thinks about them.
Bob Fyfe, the owner of Payless Furniture in Lawrence, has polarized the community by posting signs on a large truck in his store parking lot that attack the town.
The main sign reads; 'Lawrence: Commie and Candy Ass Capitol [sic] of Kansas. Goodbye Obamaville.'

That’s the flat-out truth. I remember when I’d be traveling cross-country, stopping at endless towns to shoot pictures and explore the histories, I quickly learned to check my maps and avoid ANY college town. Always full of hippies, bums, and freaks. As well as a vibe that was invariably contemptuous of americana.

Farms balance out colleges, though.

Makes sense to me. Lawrence is where KU is located. Enough commies on campus (and have been since the 60s) to indoctrinate pretty much the entire country side

Might be on a part of the truck not shown in a photo.
But anyhow. Some people look for what they can bless, others for what they can damn.

Aside from that, LOVE the sentiment.

I lived in Bloomsburg pa for a while in the 70’s and it was great little town. the college added a lot of culture at the time to the little town. also, drugs, parties etc but not at the animal house level.

Unsure how. I wonder what moved him to slap so at the place that had been buttering his bread (unless he got burned so many times it was futile).

The problem with college towns is they contain a core of affluent, well-spoken, prigs; the value and practicality of whose ideas have absolutely nothing to do with their ability to survive and thrive.
In other words, they are insulated from their own stupidity and/or corruption.

It’s possible the university area burned him financially. It certainly is a burned bridge.

Farms balance out colleges, though.Really? How many votes on a farm vs. votes on a college.
That's truly one of the dumbest things I've ever seen written, here.
