How to Kill Christianity
American Thinker ^ | Trevor Thomas

Posted on 05/19/2015 5:20:27 AM PDT by RoosterRedux

Much has been made of the recent Pew poll that highlights America’s religious landscape. What has drawn the most attention is the apparent decline of Christianity in the U.S. “The Christian share of the U.S. population is declining,” began the piece. Many liberals took gleeful notice. The Institute on Religion and Democracy’s Mark Tooley noted, “Secularists and their fellow travelers are ecstatic. The secular utopia about which John Lennon crooned is impending. Christianity is finally dying!”

Of course, this is far from the case, as Tooley later reveals. Russell Moore, president of the Ethics and Religious Liberty Commission of the Southern Baptist Convention, points out that it’s not Christianity that’s dying, but rather “near Christianity” that is teetering. “Good riddance,” Moore concludes.

The denominations that have lost the most “near Christians” are Catholic and Mainline Protestant. According to the Washington Times, “for every person who joined the Roman Catholic Church, six others were departing.” Additionally, in the last 50 years, the proportion of Americans belonging to one of the “Seven Sisters of Mainline Protestantism” has plummeted from one in six to one in sixteen.

From the Anglicans at Jamestown, to the Pilgrims at Plymouth, and the Puritans at Massachusetts Bay, virtually all of the Mainline Protestant churches in the U.S. can trace their roots to those who literally founded America. The principles of American democracy were born in Mainline churches. The revivals during the Great Awakening were preached by men from Mainline churches. Many of the first colleges and universities in the U.S. were founded by Mainline churches. What’s more, eight of the first fourteen U.S. Presidents were Episcopalian. The spiritual and political roots of America are deeply embedded in Mainline Protestantism. What a tragic fall!

I hope for their sake. I know God /Christ is very forgiving. If he forgives “Christians” for voting to remove His Name from the classroom/Public square, and for the slaughter of his unborn children and the teaching of homosexuality as a option for them, I will be even more blown away by His forgiveness, if that were possible.

I truly hope this is the case, that would mean we are forgiven for un confessed sin. In fact in the cases I am citing they are saying it`s NOT a sin.

I am just a sinner saved by grace, just trying to get my mind around all this.

All I know is most of us are weeping for the unborn etc, begging them to join us so that abortion etc would be illegal, and the “liberal Christians” have no conscience at all on these things.

Yes I hope to be blown away by Christ`s forgiveness. This would mean anything goes. If a “Christian” can vote or argue at the water cooler that God/Christ should be removed from the public square, that abortion rights are wonderful, and that children should be taught about homosexuality/transgender issues, then yes ANYTHING GOES, if it feels good do it.

I have a hard time getting my mind around that, I dont associate with such “Christians”

Clarity to things come with the understanding that socialism is nothing more than an atheistic parody of Christianity, that dispenses with the idea of God, and puts mankind in His place, at the center of the universe, creator of all things.

Other than that, socialists love to try to co-opt The Bible, to scrub it of references to God, and pretend it is their book.

For their part, Christians fail terribly when they assume that because socialists preach similar means of behavior, that their ends must be similar as well. So Christians easily get caught up in the schemes of socialism.

For example, Christians imagine charity to the poor as being a righteous thing, and uplifting, that the poor might learn to improve their own lives and find righteousness themselves.

However, the socialist version of this is so vile that it seems imagined in Hell itself. For a socialist, charity is just a means by which the socialist can get power over others and money. It strongly opposes uplifting others, as it wants their dependence. Only in poverty and ignorance are the poor useful to socialists.

And the ends are repulsive as well. For once the socialist is in power and has wealth, as far as they are concerned, there is no more poverty. The socialists have become the new “nobility”, and they and their offspring are thereafter permanent elites, to rule over the peasants. If the peasants are poor, it is because they are supposed to be that way.

This is a big reason that socialists hate the middle classes, as well, because they are mostly responsible for economically uplifting others.

Christians get suckered into supporting socialism so often that it is tragic. It is a path to their downfall and loss of faith. Socialism is all about being trendy and fashionable, the shallow and the plastic. It feeds the ego, the self importance and self pity.

But in the final analysis, socialism is just the path to death and destruction. There is no life or redemption within it, nor kindness, fairness, real charity or the love of others.

Philosophically, socialism can be described as “the least of Hells”, Hell being “an absence of God”. As such, Milton was correct as to the motives of Satan, and his attitude is much like that of socialists.

Here at least
We shall be free; th’ Almighty hath not built
Here for his envy, will not drive us hence:
Here we may reign secure, and in my choyce
To reign is worth ambition though in Hell:
Better to reign in Hell, then serve in Heav’n.

You know, we all sin. Sometimes, perhaps, we don't know that it's a sin. Sometimes we do, and are weak.

But I think we agree that on something like abortion, homosexuality, etc, it is one thing to do it, and even worse to deny that it is wrong.

In egregious cases like this, I think that willful ignorance is itself a serious sin.
