Since a federal jury on Friday sentenced the convicted bomber to death, the [Boston Marathon] finish line suddenly seems to be a place of ambivalence. Fresh flowers are accumulating. A sense of sorrow lingers in the air. Sightseers who come to snap a photo feel a little self-conscious. Residents train their gaze on the line, and the conversations turn to death and disappointment.
I was shocked, said Scott Larson, 47, a records manager who works near the finish line. The death penalty for Boston.
To many, the death sentence almost feels like a blot on the citys collective consciousness.

Thank you. It is so clearly another in the swarm of press releases that began immediately on the sentencing to move the court of public opinion to overthrow it.
It absolutely boggles the mind how many people let the sick little bastards in the media spoonfeed them dogsh!t and instead of seeing it for what it is, turn in accusation of their neighbors like puppets on a string.
Ever heard of "divide and conquer", o enlightened "conservatives"? Everyone says he wouldn't wrap a fish with the NYT and then prostrates himself in obeisance to its declarations and innuendos.
I think I see some familiar faces:
You can rest assured that I never take the libtards in the MSM at their word.* Most of the people on Free Republic feel the same way.
* I do make an exception for Dan Rather cause we all know that he would never, ever lie.
one must ask, “What would Vlad Tepes do?”
Did the NYT have these kinds of articles when McVeigh got the Death Penalty? I highly doubt it.
I am not that surprised, for two reasons: A lot of the liberalism in Massachusetts is due to the strength of liberalism in the seats of power and the political machines.
Make no mistake, there are a lot of liberals up here, but there are also a lot of middle of the road people, and yes...conservatives too. As I have been saying, “normal” people (by “normal” I mean, not college students from all over, not people entrenched in the political process, the media, etc...I mean people who work for a living and are someone you might talk to in a grocery store somewhere) don’t have any kind of sympathy for the turd just sentenced.
They (like me) might not jump up and down with glee, but will allow that if there were a case to justify the death penalty, it would be this one. That may not be head over heels support of capital punishment, but it does indicate that people understand there are circumstances where it is called for.
Dzhokhar Tsarnaev..... I am not interested in understanding him. I just want to see him executed because he murdered and injured people as in getting their leg or legs blown off. So I have no sympathy.
Arrgggh. I am probably knee jerking it the other way, but it reminded me of the Taxpayer’s March on Washington back in September 2009, where we easily had 75,000 to 150,000 people there, and when I was watching the news coverage on network television that night with the FR DC Chapter at one of their homes after we got home, the news said “thousands of people” were there.
We were all astounded, and knew that was what the whole country was going to think was the truth.
Same with this. So I am probably just being oversensitive.
I'd bet against it.
The Masshole libtards think it is unfair to execute that murdering Muzzie ... cause he is so much like one of them!
Forgive the casual observer for being skeptical of this claim.
Ah. I forgot the second reason: The truth is a powerful thing.
Tsarnaev could have been on posters in movies about college students... (In real life college kids have more American flags on their walls than Che Guevara posters - but the old liberal elite drug addicts of Hollywood love to pretend Che is loved...)
So Hollywood lowlife drug addicts and the press boys wanted to back him... but he killed the wrong people.
So important, it had to be said twice!
LOL
It was a federal court dimwit...the decision was made for the United States.....not for wussy Boston.
Not so surprising if you know the history here.
The parents of the little boy who was killed, and his sister who lost a leg, are absolutely, totally opposed to the death penalty. Go figure.
Let’s look at NYT’s journalistic objectivity:
“Death Sentence ... Unsettles City”
How is the city unsettled?
... He Tore Apart”
Do you mean literally, or ‘in their opinions’? Trying to imply both without saying so?
“the [Boston Marathon] finish line suddenly seems to be a place of ambivalence.”
To whom? This is objective reporting?
“A sense of sorrow lingers in the air.”
Please show how you objectively reached that conclusion.
“Sightseers who come to snap a photo feel a little self-conscious.”
How many? Did you get their names?
“Residents train their gaze on the line, and the conversations turn to death and disappointment.”
How many? Can you provide their names?
I was shocked, . . The death penalty for Boston.
Why the shock?
Did he know it was a legal option?
“To many,”
Number, please. How many did you interview?
“the death sentence almost . . . “
But not quite?
” . . . feels like a blot on the citys collective consciousness.”
How many people did you interview to determine the collective consciousness?
Does the NYT promote the idea that cities have a collective consciousness? How is it determined?
Not a lot of facts here or data. Journalism 101 grade: fail.
This is the biggest bunch of BS I have seen from the New York Times in awhile.
I was born right here in Boston ( Dorchester section ) have family, many friends and any number of associates.
With very few exceptions everyone I know or have had small talk with are happy this piece of filth is getting the chair.
Sure, go to dingbat web sites like universalhub.com and you’ll see any number of left wing posting wailing away about the sentence but there also pissing and moaning about ALL prison sentences being unfair.
These idiots selected a few hipsters, Beacon Hill trust fund babies, maybe a college prof or two and wrote their story.
There is no general sense of ‘ Oh ! What have we become !! Alas, we are no better than the bomber!! ‘ in this town.
Do not believe it. Its a damned lie.
they should be celebrating in the streets
