Iraq Asks for Immediate Military Support from US to Save Anbar

The Iraqi government and army officials have sent a plea to United States officials in Baghdad, asking for military support as soon as possible to prevent Ramadi, the largest city in Anbar Province, from falling to Islamic State (IS).

At a meeting held in Baghdad on Sunday to discuss the latest advances of IS in Anbar, Prime Minister Haidar al-Abadi warned that the jihadists may take the western Iraqi province.

The meeting was attended by Iraqi army commanders, the Parliament Speaker, US Ambassador Stuart Jones and a number of Iraqi political leaders. They discussed a plan to repel the IS Anbar offensive.

The Iraqi government is to send extra military support to the army frontlines and Shi’ite militias in the areas.

Iraqi parliament speaker Salim al-Jabouri held a meeting with the US ambassador attended by Anbar City Council members.

A statement published by al-Jabouri’s office after the meeting revealed, “Immediate extra military support will be sent to the Anbar frontlines to prevent further IS advances in the province.”

The statement also called for urgent international support to save Anbar residents.

The Iraqis had a chance to keep American troops and said no. Now deal with it.

I love our young men fighting and I support them in ways I can’t say here via my work. I don’t diminish their sacrafice but do they want to go back in? I personally would not send them back in while we ( current administration) arm our own enemy. If we go back please dear god let the fighting men set the ROE.

If we aren’t willing to nuke them them we should not go play policeman or nation builder. It’s a proven bad strategy IMHO.

Valarie Jarrett says, "no." This is George Bush's war. This has absolutely nothing to do with our foreign policy or the Arab "spring."

No go tell them Barry...

What happened? Did we sell all our AC-130s for scrap metal?

It seems like we could put a real dent in the ISIS battle plan if we really wanted to and do it with little effort and without deploying thousands of American troops.

But I guess Barky doesn't want to disturb his old buds in the Muslim Brotherhood or his new ones in Teheran. He already declared "victory" and wouldn't think of changing his story.

Yeah no kidding... Where’s the B-1’s, and B-52’s?

Granted we can’t do the aluminum overcast like we did in WW2, but a good old fashioned Arc Light would do wonders.

"The Iraqis had a chance to keep American troops and said no. Now deal with it."

You are misinformed or don't understand how politics work. The Generals advised Obama to leave a residual force of 15,000 behind. Obama said no and offered to leave 3,000 behind. Maliki saw the writing on the wall and knew he did not have a serious partner so he counter offered that the Americans would have to be under Iraqi law in the SOFA negotiations. Both sides knew they would make offers the other side could not accept so the deal fell apart.

If Obama was serious, he would have accepted the Generals recommendations and believe me, we could have put pressure on Maliki to accept it. Both sides can say hey we tried but couldn't work out a deal. Obama wanted out and he got his wish. Now he has to live with the consequences.

Thanks for talking about something you know not a wit about, that is, what I know. You destroy your own argument with that statement.

Kudos to you. Instead of actually debating in an intelligent manner, you resort to insults. I know nothing about what I said? Show me where I am wrong? That is exaclty what happened in 2011. Since you can't refute it, you would rather insult me. If you don't want to have an intelligent conversation, fine keep with your idiotic opinions based on nothing but your own ignorance. Goodbye.

You said I dont know what I am talking about. I’m curious that if that is the case why you continue this conversation? Ignorance?

You said: "Thanks for talking about something you know not a wit about"

So basically you are now accusing me of stating something you said to me. Unbelievable!! But you are right, I should not be continuing a conversation with someone who is turning out to be an idiot. I just had to point that out because it is so hilarious. When you have an intelligent point to make, I'll respond. That is if you would like to actually debate the topic I first responded to you on or would you rather turn to pointless insults since you have no argument?

“I think my son and my cousin would bust you in the nose for your asinine comment.”

I understand your anger. However, don’t forget that it is Obama who has pizzed away and held of no account all the gains made by brave men like your son and cousin just to aggrandize himself. He’s been responsible for most of the turmoil in the Middle East with his stupid policies. Thanks to all your family members for what they did. But please save some of that nose busting for the imposter that’s in the Whitehouse.
