I would argue that along with the Syrian officers that left years ago, these troops will be the nucleus of the army that defeats ISIL and forms the new military of the new Sunni nation that formed from what was once Syria and Iraq.
That was the plan along until Obama got cold feet in November of 2013 and backed out.
