Washington (AFP) - The state of Texas executed a man convicted in the triple murder of his girlfriend, her mother and her grandfather, officials said.
Derrick Charles, 32, was put to death by lethal injection at the state penitentiary in Huntsville at 6:36 pm (2236 GMT), according to spokesman Jason Clark.
His last words before being injected with the lethal drugs were "I'm ready to go home," Clark said.
The US Supreme Court earlier on Tuesday denied a last minute appeal by the condemned man, allowing the execution to proceed.
Charles was just 19 at the time of the murders, which anti-death penalty activists had hoped would be taken into account in appeals that sought to spare his life at trial.

That is awesome.
Where he is now, is between him and God.
He’s not in Texas any more, and he won’t be murdering any more girlfriends, mothers, or grandfathers.
there is no reference to squirming or any sound so I guess the world will come on a beaten path to learn how to do it right
You might have something there.
All it will take is a fixed camera and a wireless receiver in another room. You wouldn’t be obtrusive or disrespectful.
Write a letter and see what happens..... couldn’t hurt
I bet it is super HOT there, where he is!
Derrick Dewayne Charles
Ever noticed how many prisoners have middle name WAYNE? and now DEWAYNE added to that list?!?!?!
I always wonder about the victims of the killers when so much attention is given to the killers. Did the killer have any sympathy for his murder victims? NO!
Texas could take a lesson from North Korea and execute by anti aircraft fire.
Didn't know that, thanks. However, I've become anti-death penalty if the scum were sentenced to HARD labor for the duration of their life. Let them know agony - make them suffer. Think chain gangs. Yes, I've become a vengeful sh*t. I'm sick of these monsters going out so easily when good decent people go through years of pain from cancer, et al.
No, but just saw him standing behind the current New York mayor, de Blasio, in one of his national tours spouting his socialist/racist agenda. It was a big issue on Fox News "The Five" as they wondered why he wasn't in NY dealing with the increasing crime. Can't believe New York City elected another Bloomberg.
Why don't these socialist poli-sh*theads ever learn from those who make things work, like Rudy Giuliani. Yes, I know, they are so committed to their unrealistic Utopian ideals, they just can't see past their bleeding hearts and/or need to control everyone for the betterment of mankind.
And then there are the "gimmedats" that I believe should not be able to vote if on welfare. Talk about a conflict of interest. Pfft.
In all my 65 years I have never understood how you prison guards can deal with such monsters every day and then go home and live a normal life. Your basic patrol Cop sees the worst on the streets. You guys deal with the worst of the worst. I truly don't understand how prison guards don't want to eat their own bullet after seeing what they see daily.
Write a letter to whom? And even if some obscure cable channel were to produce my idea, who would watch it? People watch blood and guts every day on certain TV channels and movies, but they know that is make believe. Other than us ultimate justice types, few would have the balls to watch an execution.
I have a friend in Mountain View that does camera and lighting etc for a public access channel. They do all kinds of stuff.
It might go viral on You tubeW. who to write? I have no clue
I mean come on........ MSNBC has almost no viewers
Good point.
With you on that.
I don't understand it either, and after 25 years, I couldn't take it anymore. Somehow, we had to separate our personal feelings from our professional feelings. It wasn't easy, but that was what we had to do. Generally, it was 99% boredom, interrupted by 1% pure stark raving terror. They did not pay us for the 99%, they paid us for that 1%. I got caught in the middle of that a time or two.
