For Halperin types will let Pelosi, Biden and Kennedy (pick one, any one) to masquerade as Catholic, it is enough to tell pious stories about their teachers in parochial school, or simply state that it is central to their lives even though they aggressive flout Church teaching at every turn.

He answered a few things like his favorite Cuban food, etc. Nothing wrong with enjoying some stuff from your heritage. But he didn't fal into any traps. He is too smart. Way too smart. I'm glad.
BTW, I'm of Italian descent, and Governor Cuomo or DeBlasio could show up at my door with a pizza and two cannolis while babbling in fluent Italian and I wouldn't open the door, no less vote for them.

Halperin's unstated premise underlying his questions is that one cannot have a bona fide Hispanic heritage if he doesn't continue to bathe himself in the Hispanic culture and view American politics from a Hispanic prism.
Not just culture, but only the common, vulgar aspects of it. There is more to culture than having a spicy popsicle, playing mariachi on the juke box, and having Spanish as a first language.
If Sen. Cruz had confessed to being inspired by the works of San Juan del la Cruz or edified by Cervantes, that would likely count for nothing.

I'm not of Italian descent, but my German-Irish father grew up in New Haven, and my Polish-English mother learned to cook it. If these sfacim came to my door babbling in fluent Italian and carrying pizza and cannolis, I would open the door, grab the apizza, and slam it in their faces.

I’ve been edified by cerveza. Does that count?

Maybe, if you were watching the amazing eye candy on the Telenovelas, understanding not a word, while being edified by cervesa and tortillas. Enough for Halperin, anyway.

I’m an American with Danish and Irish blood.....I have noticed that since I turned the age of 15 I have an underlying tendency to want to conquer everything and drink their beer.......jus’ sayin’ Halperin had no idea that he was talking to an extremely intelligent American conservative who can probably detect a moonbat liberal a mile away.....I pray that the citizens of our republic realize how valuable Mr. Cruz is to having any hope of correcting this lawlessness of the past 6 plus years and the damage done across the board...Go Mr. Cruz.

If I were in the Cruz entorage, I would have advised Cruz to start laughing at Halperin and called him a POLITICAL HACK that he is.I would have asked him why he hasn’t asked any of these liberal, socialist and communist politicians the same questions. How about this question to OBAMA. Mr OBAMA just how black are you? Do you eat water melon every day? And how about those “CHITLINS”? And of course you have fried chicken every sunday
To: dp0622
That’s because you are a sophisticated voter. You do not vote for a candidate because they are a woman, Afr.Am., Latino, etc. Or because they are beautiful or cool.
To: Kaslin
Imagine Halperin asking Barack or Moochie Obama “What is your favorite black food?”
Or asking Hillary “What is your favorite lesbian movie?”
Or asking Elizabeth Warren “Who is your favorite comic book Indian, Little Beaver or Tonto?”

Great post. I’m of Italian descent and even I THINK about pizza and cannolis and the mafia, Saturday night Fever and construction when I think about us lol.
Instead of thinking about Da Vinci, Michelangelo, Fermi, Verrazano (I can see the bridge from my house :)), Vespucci, etc.
