This interview by Mark Halperin with Ted Cruz is a shocking example of liberal double standards. Cruz, a Cuban American, was targeted by Halperin for being an "inauthentic" Hispanic - I guess because he's a conservative Republican. But the insulting, demeaning questions by Halperin asking Cruz to "prove" his genuineness elicited a ringing denunciation from Rueben Navarette:
Watching Mark Halperin of Bloomberg Politics interview Cruz recently, I wasn't just uncomfortable. I was actually nauseated.
As a journalist, I felt embarrassed for Halperin. As a Hispanic, I felt like I was watching a college fraternity have fun with racial stereotypes, like when staging a "border party" where people show up in serapes and fake mustaches. And as someone who doesn't adhere to a party line to the point where I've been accused of being a "coconut" (white on the inside, brown on the outside), I was furious enough to -- as Sarah Palin once said approvingly about Cruz -- chew barbed wire and spit out rust.
The online interview show that Halperin co-hosts on BloombergPolitics.com is called "With All Due Respect." But there was nothing respectful about the line of questioning. It started off innocently enough with Halperin asking the 2016 GOP presidential candidate about whether he thinks Hispanics will vote for him. He also mentioned a speech that Cruz had given to the U.S. Hispanic Chamber of Commerce and gave Cruz the chance to explain his argument that Republican economic policies help Hispanics.
Nothing wrong with that. But then Halperin made it personal, and the interview careened into a ditch. He told Cruz that people are curious about his "identity." Then, the host asked a series of questions intended to establish his guest's Hispanic bona fides.

And watch this:
Halperin said: “I want to give you the opportunity to directly welcome your colleague Sen. Bernie Sanders to the race, and I’d like you to do it, if you would, en español.”
We need Nuremburg Laws in place so that the government/media can accurately assign people to their designated group for appropriate processing.
I’m surprised Halperin would do this as he’s called Obama a dick.
Here;s a transcript of portions of the interview:
Courtesy of HOTAIR:
Halperin: Senator, people are really interested in you and your identity. I just wanted to ask you as a historical matter, when you filled out your application to Princeton, to Harvard Law School, did you list yourself as an Hispanic?
Halperin: if you have an affinity for or a connection to anything part of your Cuban past, do you have a favorite Cuban food Cuban dish?
Cruz: Oh, I grew up eating Cuban food all the time, I
[Halperin cuts him off] Whats your favorite dish?
Halperin: Alright do you like Cuban music. Do you have a favorite Cuban Singer?
Halperin: Finally, I wanted to give you the opportunity to welcome your colleague Senator Sanders to the race and Id like you to do it, if you would, en Espanol.
Did anyone ever question Obama’s African-American heritage by asking him this:
“Mr. Obama, if you are indeed the first Kenyan-American presidential candidate, could you welcome John McCain to the race in Swahili?”
???
A few years back Halperin got suspended from MSNBC shows for about a month for calling Obama a d..k on The Morning Joe.
Turns out he has intimate knowledge of the personality type.
The response from Ruben Navarrette was very well done. Halperin has insulted every child of Hispanic parents in the country legally who have thought it very important to assimilate fully into American culture and excel. Halperin is an unprofessional jerk.
