The Republican leader of the Senate told a crowd gathered on Sunday at the institute honoring one of the chambers most liberal members that the late Edward M. Kennedys skills as a legislator are the kind needed to help the fractious body learn to once again cooperate.
Majority leader Mitch McConnell of Kentucky said Kennedy was someone who could separate the personal from the political and who stayed true to his word. Those are characteristics that will help the body function better in the future, and there are already signs of progress, McConnell said.
A real sense of renewal is taking hold in the Senate, McConnell told a crowd of about 200 people gathered at the first lecture in a series titled Getting to the Point at the newly opened Edward M. Kennedy Institute, which sits on Columbia Point in Dorchester next to the John F. Kennedy Presidential Library.
McConnell, first elected to the Senate in 1984, spoke from a podium that looks much like the one in the Senate chamber in Washington. The Kennedy Institute features a replica of the chamber, and audience members Sunday filled the seats and balcony.

McConnell makes a really good point, although I don’t think he intended to. The Kennedy think with Andropov over Reagan is a good example.
The Dem take on politics is the same on the Mafia’s take on “business”. It’s just politics/business. It’s NOT personal to them.
So Kennedy could work with the Soviets on getting rid of Reagan in the same way Michael Corleone could have Fredo killed. Just business, right, nothing personal about it.
One of the most chillingly cold passages I’ve read about how the Dems view politics comes from Chris Mathews book on Tip O’Neill, where he talks about how O’Neill would spend the day ripping Reagan apart in the House, then clock out at 5, go up to the White House, have drinks and trade Irish stories with Reagan on the Truman Balcony.
We can actually learn a lot from that sort of mentality. We NEED to learn how to counteract it.
Sickening ain’t it?
Mitch Mc Connell is a wastrel and a useless Politician.
T.Kennedy was at least as bad , but more likely worse than McConnell, if that is possible!!!!!
OMG.... the first sentence of this article was enough for me. I almost vomited. When is that old fart, Mitch McConnell gonna go ahead and die?
Don’t be too sure. There’s a high fence around the Swimmer’s Arlington plot, not to keep out Kennedy-haters, but to keep out the homeless who are drawn there by the Scotch fumes that continue to rise from his grave to this day.
As for Mitch MsConnell, GRRRRRR!!!!!
Not a d@mn thing’s gonna change in Congress even with a Republican majority. I take the mailers I get from the RNC & tell them to bleep off!
CRUZ or lose!
Mitch McConnell is the quintessential “corrupt” politician. He has no moral compass whatsoever. Power and status are his only objectives.
Now we know who Mitch aspires to be. I wonder if he is drinking and womanizing like old Chappaquiddick, too.
Language, please. There are ladies present.
There. I fixed it.
[”Ted Kennedy, great, great man!”]
McConnells’ demented mind.
If you googled ‘democrat praising republican’, you would get ‘your search provided no results’.
