Washington Gov. Jay Inslee might be Sen. Patty Murray’s best friend in 2016.
A Republican operative confirmed to CQ Roll Call the party is looking to target Murray this cycle, but with many of the state’s most eligible Republicans expressing more interest in challenging the Democratic governor, a formidable candidate remains elusive.
The man who could be the GOP’s top recruit is, at least publicly, noncommittal. Rep. Dave Reichert, a six-term congressman who’s flirted with statewide office before, told CQ Roll Call in a statement Monday, “My entire career I have always kept my options open. I have considered every possibility that has been put in front of me.”
Reichert isn’t ruling out a Senate bid, but he’s more often mentioned as a gubernatorial contender. He could just as well decide to stay put in Washington’s 8th District, which, thanks to redistricting, is now safer turf for a Republican. But just in case, Reichert’s aides confirmed last year to the Seattle Times that he has owned ReichertforGovernor.com and ReichertforSenate.com since at least 2011.
As for other top recruits from the delegation, few Washington state sources expect Rep. Cathy McMorris Rodgers to risk her position as House Republican Conference chairwoman in a competitive race against the four-term senator.
Other Republican names in the mix include state Sen. Steve Litzow, state Sen. Andy Hill and Seattle Port Commissioner Bill Bryant. But all three have been more vocal about their interest in the gubernatorial race.

How hard can it be to find a challenger to one of the dumbest and ugliest senators in office? Henny Youngman once said “everyone has the right to be ugly, unfortunately, some people abuse the privilege.” I think he was referring to Patty. Run a good looking Congresswoman with half a brain and after the first debate, it’s over. Sorry Patty, truth hurts.

Like so many other states, King and adjacent Shohomish counties control the election results for all of Washington. Patty Murray will never be defeated because of all the women in the two counties who reward her for her unfailing support of publicly funded, unlimited abortion on demand. She can be ugly as a troll and as dumb as a box of rocks but no one is going to knock her out of the senate. Patty Murray is the poster child for repeal of the 17th amendment.

Patty Murray IS truly the dumbest member of the Senate but the local media protects her absolutely! As long as she tows the party line (More taxes on “rich” people, more money for schools, no restrictions on abortion) she will continue to get 90% of the vote in King County, which makes her almost impossible to beat in a state wide election.
And frankly, Reichert doesn’t do well in debates or in matters of policy. He has a nice cushy Federal job in return for almost no actual work and I doubt very much he is going to risk that for a competitive race he knows he’ll probably lose!
Yup. In the last presidential election, eastern King Co voted democrat for the first time. It had always been a minor "brake" to Seattle, Tacoma and Everett.
I doubt just on numbers alone, there are enough votes now outside that black hole of liberalism to counter it.

I like Seattle Port Commissioner Bill Bryant. The viability of Seattle and Tacoma port facilities is dependent upon the infrastructure that will get cargo off the ships and transported quickly out to Chicago. Canada’s Vancouver B.C. port is beefing up for the new super container ships and already has infrastructure that can provide the speediest transport for Asian products to the Midwest.
Congestion, labor tensions and tax concerns at U.S. ports have also spurred some shippers to look to Canada.
Bill Bryant knows this vulnerable situation completely and will do Washington State well with the power he will have in the U.S. Senate.
