Businessman Matt Bevin is the guy some see moving up in the Kentucky GOP governor's primary. Bevin also challenged now-Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) in a primary last year.
These two things are not distinct from one another. Now that Bevin's chances appear to be on the rise in the May 19 primary (thanks to Agriculture Commissioner James Comer's problems), here comes Team McConnell to knock him down a peg or two.
And boy do they. Here is top McConnell aide Josh Holmes on Bevin in a new Lousiville Courier-Journal story:
Josh Holmes, McConnell's former chief of staff and an adviser to his campaign, was even more critical, saying that Bevin can't be trusted and is essentially running to satisfy his ego.
"If Matt Bevin had moved to a state where he had a better shot at being elected to office as a Democrat, he would articulate the values of liberalism with the same conviction he now talks about conservatism," Holmes said in a statement.
"It's abundantly clear that his guiding light is to embrace whatever gets himself a little further down the road," he said. "If somehow Matt Bevin got into the governor's mansion his only agenda would be the commissioning of his portrait."
Ouch.

Amazing how people justify anything to avoid apologizing for the crap they brought down on America.

I did
“Absolutely no question better than that women who ran against him.”
You are wrong. McConnell has already done far more damage to conservatism than Grimes could ever dream of doing, and he will continue to do so for a long time to come. McConnell is in a prime position to inflict the greatest amount of damage to up-and-coming conservative candidates, across the nation, whereas Grimes would have been little more than an irrelevant speck of dirt on the political landscape. And McConnell will continue to wreak havoc on any conservative upstarts for many more years to come. Thanks to the stupid Republican voters, who have believed in the illusion that a bad, yet very powerful, Republican was somehow better than someone almost certain to be one-term footnote in Senate history.
He and Harry Reid must be BFF, they are like twins.
Who knew a turtle could be ever so catty?
And if I remember correctly, he got a little talking to by the boss, about his
GOPe shrillness prior to the election
Lot of good that did. Here he is again with the same crap as ever.
I dont like Bevin but I would be happy if Bevin(who is weak on immigration) or another candidate, who was an immigration hawk, would screw over power couple Rand McConnell and Mitch McConnell.
Yup, a weak freshman Senator named Allison Grimes would have prevented a LOT of the damage being done.
Name um!!
Isn’t it interesting that all the posters who polluted FreeRepublic with the “vote for McConnell, you can’t let a Democrat win!” posts have suddenly grown silent now that he’s shown his true colors - but even more so, others have seemed to develop amnesia towards all these posts? It’s like there’s some kind of an “Omertà” about this.
Cant tell the willfully ignorant that now, couldn’t tell the willfully ignorant that when it could have wrenched the GOP works.
They wanted their “Lesser evil” and it grew into the greatest evil as evil always does.
Yea it’s called open liberalism.
Not naming anyone till they come back around election time.
Besides, I’d have to ping them out of courtesy, and they wouldn’t show anyways.
Name um!!
LOL! There are enough of us here who remember the pollution. Your obfuscation won't work.
And Travis Childers would have been a better choice in MS. But no.... can’t have that happen!
Senator McConnell has a death grip on the Kentucky Republican party.
He was instrumental in forcing Jim Bunning to retire from the Senate only to fall short of seeing his handpicked candidate take over the seat. The Ron Paul/Rand Paul campaign structure had deep pockets and an experienced get-out-the-vote machine. That, and a well-timed endorsement from Sarah Palin, was just enough to overcome the McConnell machine.
Going forward, it will be very difficult for a traditional candidate to stand up against his influence.
They grow silent because they are weak and scared,so they do the same thing over and over again, vote GOPe.
