Why is he called “conservative”? I know he had some views that were in sync with conservative views, but mostly he had no position on the issues. He stood up to Obama at a prayer meeting, he’s really smart, he’s black, he’s successful — that is the resume we are presented with.
But as someone else says, the more he speaks, the more it sounds like he has views on issues that span a range of political labels. Maybe he is a good social conservative. Maybe he is a moderate on government spending. Who knows?
What we know is that he has never held office, and we have NO idea how he would ever actually vote on anything. He’s never been in a debate, we don’t know how he’d answer specific questions.
In the current field of candidates, is there really a reason we need to jump to an untested, unknown personality?
Would anybody even care about Ben Carson if his skin was white?
I was waiting for someone else to point out the obvious. If a white neurosurgeon or Pizza CEO ran for President, they'd be treated as a local curiosity and fringe candidate by the media (like I've said before, do you remember software engineer/businessman Jim Lenane's candidacy for the GOP nomination back in 1992? Neither do most people, nor did many people know about him even then). In contrast, because Cain and Carson are black, the GOP's own version of affirmative action and political correctness requires everyone to speak of them with respect and awe as serious and plausible candidates.
I think Allen West is the only serious candidate.
Allen West is popular not because he’s black but because of his hands on enhanced interrogation experience. Being black, obviously helps people get interested in the candidate but Carson has nothing other than that and being a brain surgeon who believes in stupid things.
