I don’t have a low opinion of them, but, soldiers are trained and drilled to follow orders. Keep in mind they followed orders to kill their fellow Americans in the distant past. I would wager 90% will do as they are told. What do you think?

Yes Virgina, US military formations will indeed attack you. Realize that the first president many have ever known was Clinton. In war games now, the enemy is not fictional “Orange nation” against “Blue nation”. It is the US military needing to suppress a regional TEA insurgency. Large numbers of them do not have any memory of old America. They look at the old military/civilian relationship in the manner that you would look at WWI.
Some are trustworthy, some are utter scoundrels. Their leader, Commander in Chief, is a homosexual, moslem Marxist, who grew up in Indonesia, and was nurtured by Weather Underground, and an honest to God “Big Jim McClain” nest of Hawaiian communists.
