Indeed, this will be money well flushed.
Curious who shook them down to make this “investment”.
It’s wrong, but they do it anyway.
The company has a 152 billion market cap, so it could be worse : )
It is not their money to hand out like candy, regardless of market cap.
Heaping mounds of crack would be the best investment. Kids would learn valuable life lessons in a free market economy, and not to take poison.
I am sure there is a tax write off somewhere.
If their combined federal and state marginal tax bracket is say 50%, the cash outflow of $5,000,000 is offset by a reduction of $2,500,00 of tax payments, an inflow so to speak.
They don’t need another dime.
They need DISCIPLINE and REARRANGED PRIORITIES.
Internally, the new CEO is NOT well liked.
LOTS of fine experienced employees are leaving.
Barrett used to be the worst...not anymore.
Andy Grove was the best.
“I am sure there is a tax write off somewhere.”
When I was in college many years ago, a class mate suggested to his father who owned a car dealership to donate a car to some cause we were undertaking. to make his arguement, he said to his father it would be tax deductible. His father pointed out to him, in business everything is tax deductible.
Intel to invest $5 million in Oakland high schools

SAN FRANCISCO Intel will invest $5 million over the next five years in a new pilot program to teach computer science to high school students in the Oakland Unified School District.
. . .
The goal of the program will be to send 600 high school graduates to college to study computer science engineering and then in preparation for jobs with Intel or other companies.
. . .
They are not just dumping money into a school building project or some social experiment. Their intent is to train the next generation of computer scientists and engineers. Not sure if focusing their efforts on just two schools in Oakland California is a wise business investment, but it is their money to spend.
From 2002 through the end of 2012, 787 African American boys and men were victims of homicide in Oakland, nearly matching the number who graduated from Oakland high schools ready to attend a state university, the San Francisco Chronicle reported.
Hopefully, they’really buying some other profitable kind of influence. That’S the only hope of crony capitalism.
The justice brothers have been whining about not enough blacks in Silicon valley...
$5 million... Oakland School District? They’ll piss that away in under an hour.
Agreed.
But a $5 million dollar donation is really $2.5 million if you pay out $5 million and don’t pay $2.5 million dollars in taxes.
