Texas shooting: Outgunned traffic officer stopped 2 attackers
CNN ^ | May 5, 2015 | By Greg Botelho

It wasn't a fair fight.

On one side, you had two men in body armor, toting assault rifles and showing every willingness to open fire now and count their victims later. On the other, you had a security officer -- a traffic officer by day -- with a pistol.

Somehow, the officer won.

Authorities have not released the name of the overmatched Garland, Texas, police officer who stopped a pair of gunmen Sunday night. But they have described what he did, actions that could be characterized as equal parts skillful, heroic and miraculous.

The event started, by all accounts, without a hitch.

Until, that is, about 6:50 p.m., when a dark-colored vehicle pulled into the entrance the Garland officer and school district officer were blocking.

"When that car pulled up and stopped, those officers began to exit that vehicle and two men exited the dark-colored sedan," Harn said. "Both of them had assault rifles, came around the back of the car and started shooting at the police car."

Gunfire reverberated around the complex, from the two gunmen, and the armed officer. A short time later, four members of a nearby SWAT team came in firing their high-powered rifles. But by the time they did, the Garland traffic officer was the only one standing.

The two attackers were already down on the ground by their car, having been shot by the traffic officer.

Within 15 seconds, the chaotic eruption was basically over.

The great thing about it is you can not home your trigger control skills without feedback, and this system provides it.

After a few hundred trigger pulls, I was able to consistently hit eyeball size targets from 3 to 5 yards without even verifying with the sights!

According to another article, the second ISIS terrorist was wounded and still trying to reach into a bag removed from the vehicle. That was when Swat from inside the building came onto the scene and decided to obliterate the vehicle and the last ISIS terrorist.

Think it is very unlikely it was a .45 GAP round, The G21 is a pretty popular .45 ACP pistol.

...and I want to echo the willingness to buy the officer the drink of his choice. I would deliver a bottle of Macallan 25 to the Garland Police Department.

I would hope that officer never pays for another drink for the rest of his life.

There is an account from witnesses in the article linked at Post #67 above and now posted at FR here >>> http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/3286745/posts
The officer killed one terrorist and wounded the other in his initial volley of return fire. Witnesses claim there was a brief pause, and then the officer fire two more shots to kill the still-moving terrorist as he appears to be reaching for a backpack. The entire event lasted 15 seconds, with heavily-armed Garland SWAT converging on the scene immediately afterward.
If the witness account is accurate, it was over as SWAT was arriving and more likely they didn't fire.

“Awhile back I shot a squirrel. He was perfectly silhouetted against the sky, up on the peak of the roof. Shot him with my little Marlin .22. I’d been listening to him chew inside the wall at night for what seemed like months. Got him in the neck, right under his little chin.

It’s nice and quiet now.”

I’ll always remember a trip my sister and I were leaving IL for Florida, with a stopover to visit my aunt and Uncle who lived in Hilton Head, in S. Carolina. We were sitting in their breakfast nook in the kitchen one morning, eating, when through the open patio doors at the back of the kitchen my Uncle spotted a squirrel up in their birdhouse that was on a very tall pole not too far from the back sliding glass doors of the kitchen. The birdhouse was in direct view of where we were sitting.

My Uncle didn’t like the fact that this squirrel had the temerity to be in his birdhouse, so he went and got his gun and plugged the squirrel who was peering out from the birdhouse circular opening, right between the eyes. While we all looked on in amazement, the bird plunked back into the birdhouse, deader than a doornail, never to be seen again. Good shooting Uncle, even if it did freak us all out at the time. The transaction took place fast, unfortunately for the squirrel.

Reminds me of the article you often reference concerning the potential of the handgun.

Interesting. Basically the same ballistics as the ACP in a slightly smaller package (case).

a two-for for CNN. Terrorists not called terrorists but “Texas Gunmen”.

Has Cuomo chimes in yet to say seven rounds is all that is necessary if confronted by two terrorists?

Texas isn't listed as one of the States where LEOs are authorized to carry the .45GAP line of handguns. So I'd guess the cop used a Glock 21 firing standard .45 rounds. Probably has a nicer recoil anyway, and for a holstered duty weapon the size difference wouldn't matter as much.

That, and he's probably put a million practice rounds through it... LOL!

I agree. I was just pointing out that it was a Glock and not a 1911. Glocks get a lot of snorts around here, so I had to take advantage of the opportunity : )

Sounds like your uncle got a two’fer, though I think that’s probably not what you meant to say. That would be quite a trick, to shoot a squirrel and a bird with one shot!
