I-81 remains closed in Botetourt after armed standoff

A man who engaged in a standoff with Virginia state police on Interstate 81 is dead, according to a release.
A trooper stopped the driver near mile marker 161 in Botetourt County while the vehicle was going southbound at 10:20 a.m. When the trooper approached the vehicle, the unnamed driver displayed a firearm. The trooper immediately took cover. No shots were reported fired in a
Tuesday morning release.
Police continued attempts to contact the driver. When he remained unresponsive they, approached the vehicle and found him unconsciousness. He was taken to an ambulance on scene and pronounced dead, according to the release. The incident caused several hours of backup and required Virginia Department of Transportation officials to reroute vehicles in both northbound and southbound lanes.
At about noon, Salem dispatchers said traffic was starting to move in the northbound lanes, but I-81 is still closed in the area surrounding the incident. As of 12:56 p.m., VDOT's 511virginia.org site says traffic is backed up 8 miles in both directions.
Southbound traffic is being routed onto Route 11 at exit 162 in Buchanan and back onto I-81 at exit 156 in Troutville.

Seems to be a lot of this happening now. Thugs and criminals are defiantly emboldened since Ferguson and Baltimore.
You're right, it is. I heard a snippet on the local radio news update earlier. But here's the latest from the Roanoke station (Roanoke is just a bit south of Botetourt County).
