Retired physician Ben Carson told a Florida television station on Sunday that he is running for the 2016 Republican presidential nomination.
"I'm willing to be part of the equation and, therefore, I'm announcing my candidacy for president of the United States of America," Carson said in an interview with CBS affiliate WPEC-TV in West Palm Beach, Florida.

Would you want a surgeon who had never practiced medicine to do your hip replacement? —
Depends on what the ‘real surgeons’ have been up to.
Might be worth the risk.
Ben Carson's candidacy is Herman Cain minus the sexual harassment accusations. As with Cain, we have a successful and articulate individual with zero political experience seeking the highest political office. In both instances, they wouldn't even be a blip on the media radar screens but for one thing: they are black Republicans. A certain faction of the GOP is so eager to twist themselves into pretzels proving how "inclusive" and "non-racist" they are that they're willing to throw their support and votes behind vanity non-candidacies like Carson and Cain's. The GOP has its own affirmative action, in other words.
Case in point: back in 1992, a successful software engineer turned businessman named Jim Lenane ran for the GOP nomination. How many people knew about him then? No more than a handful, because his qualifications for the Presidency were precisely the same was Cain and Carson's: zero. But since he wasn't a "minority" for GOP activists to use as a posterchild for inclusiveness, he was quickly forgotten.
Cruz is my guy but God bless Dr Carson, his announcement was outfreepinstandin
You almost have to wonder how many of these zero-chance candidates are being bankrolled by Karl Rove's outfit and the RNC to split votes away from viable conservative candidates (Walker, Cruz), guaranteeing the nomination of Jeb Bush.
Huckabee is likely to announce soon if he hasn't done so already, not sure about Santorum. The fact is, at least those two clowns can claim executive and legislative experience, which is more than can be said for obvious vanity candidacies like Carson.
There are two reasons to run for high office even if you know that your chances of being elected are zero. The first is that you have a political message or ideology that you think needs to be heard, one that otherwise doesn't get a fair hearing in the marketplace of ideas in election politics. The second is pure personal vanity.
As far as I can tell, Carson isn't saying anything ideologically that isn't better said by viable candidates. Since he doesn't have a message that makes him a specific alternative to other conservative candidates, that leaves pretty much leaves option 2.
Cruz was the First to enter...
I’ll stick with him to the end....
Dr. Carson is a good man, he will fit well into a position President Cruz chooses.
I agree.
While Dr. Carson stands little chance of winning the nomination, his “average man” schtick does resonate well with the populace. His speech in Detroit this morning was a mixture of self-effacing humor, rags to riches story, and enough policy tidbits to make people think.
He is the true “outsider” in the Republican nominee race.
Personally, I’d like to see Cruz win the nomination and the general election. But if he does win nomination, an overture to Dr. Carson as part of a Cruz administration wouldn’t necessarily be a bad thing.
Yeah, because we need more sound-bite time as well as “I agree with XYZ” instead of open debate with REAL/new ideas.
Yeah, HUGE /s tag just in case...
I’m constantly confounded how the supposed party of non-monopoly/more-options-are-better want to narrow the field that may bring out people to vote and/or start/lead the next ‘revolution’ because their air-time to the Sports Channel could be interrupted by a lengthy debate.
Pity that Dr. Arson has a fatal case of foot-in-mouth disease.
