What can one say to such idiocy?
If any say,.... They deserve this, they were ‘provocative’, then they’re a useful idiot ‘dhimmi’ ...and further by using the word ‘Provocative’ they’re implying that in their mind there was some justification for trying to kill people for drawing pictures.
What can one say to such idiocy?

Well, it’s simply another day at the offices of the New York Times.
Could someone ask her if she believes free speech is worth defending?
Remind her of the “provocative” forms of perverted, degenerate art that are funded by tax dollars. If we let terrorists frighten us into silent self-censorship we lose what is left of our intellectual rights without so much as a whimper.
Why does the NYT print anything negative about conservatives, by the same twist of logic. Yet, they still do.
My question to her would be, quite seriously, why do you consider a Muhammad drawing contest provocative?
did she ask why they allowed an exhibit called “piss Christ” too?
Why would anyone host a “Draw Mohammed” contest? Any event that makes muslims feel unwelcome is worth spending money on. We should treat muslims exactly as they deserve to be treated: like sh*t. They don’t belong here and they should NOT feel welcome here.
People like this think it’s ok to smear excrement on a picture of Jesus, don’t remember hearing much sympathy from them whenever Christianity is attacked through art etc.
If your opponent is of choleric temper, SEEK to irritate him.

“Free speech aside why would anyone do something so provocative as photographing Christ being submerged in urine?”
That’s what I would say and challenge her to explain the contradiction!
