Depending on whom you ask, Jade Helm 15 is either a domestic military training exercise or a covert operation for the federal government to take over the state of Texas and 2016 presidential candidate Ted Cruz just became the latest Republican to fan the flames of the latter theory.
Speaking at the South Carolina Republican Partys annual convention Saturday, the Texas senator told Bloombergs David Weigel that his office had contacted the Pentagon about the exercise, which officially consists of a series of training drills throughout the Southwest for about 1,200 special operations personnel, including Green Berets and Navy SEALs. Conspiracy theorists operating on the fringes of the conservative blogosphere, however, have other ideas about what the exercise, known as Jade Helm 15, is intended to do such as implement martial law, seize Americans guns, and imprison political dissidents.
Rather than squash those theories outright, Cruz apparently decided it was better to be safe than sorry.
My office has reached out to the Pentagon to inquire about this exercise, he said. We are assured it is a military training exercise. I have no reason to doubt those assurances, but I understand the reason for concern and uncertainty, because when the federal government has not demonstrated itself to be trustworthy in this administration, the natural consequence is that many citizens dont trust what it is saying.(continued)

The knee jerk circular firing squad is starting up again
How many people were needed for the 1993 WTC bombing?
How many states did the OKC bombers take over?
I’m in thread.
Typos will increase.
And I think he’s a nut too. Has it dawned on anyone what the 15 means? It means they have done this fourteen times already.
Fourteen times without declaring martial law and taking down a huge part of the U.S. With special ops and Seals. I know SF guys and Seals. They would no more do this stuff than shoot their teammates in the head.
You guys need a new hobby.
Tyop?
I googled in vain for such a thing.
I was seriously considering him, but this just means he’s as full of $hit as the rest of them.
Rearrange the letters. Then look up sarcasm.
The point is: they don’t need to take over.
That wouldn’t be the objective.
Tell me, did the 1993 WTC bombers take over NY?
We’d need some more details about what’s going on.
I don’t think there is much love lost between rednecks and Obama.
How come I doubt that?
“What are y’all gonna do when you wake up and realize the reichstagg is not on fire?
You must be one of those brilliant, intellectual, really-really smart Progressives who loves to say that conservatives are a bunch of knuckle-dragging, ignorant, bible-thumping, gun-loving morons.
IMHO
As it turned out they were drunk that night.
Way ahead of you, I googled for the supposed incident and comment, not for “Tyop.” Found a wild Palin party from 2014. And nothing from Cruz about it.
Turns out you’re still a complete idiot as well. But they sobered pp. What’s your excuse?
[This whole JH thing is an embarrassment to the right]
With the rioting and anti-police sentiment going on throughout the nation, TED CRUZ was wise to check with the Pentagon about the unprecedented domestic military training exercise in the great state of Texas. His action will quell the fears of some of his constituents.
Doesn't matter. People like me are sending cash money to his campaign so you don't have to.

His post history does put him on their side a lot.
Cruz wasn’t the one who said it, the poster they were responding to did.
It is a very long way from Vermont to Texas. Maybe if you had lived in Texas the past decade or so you may understand the need to question as where there is smoke, there usually is fire. I don’t live there either and I don’t fully understand all the aspects that prompted his question but I have read enough to know many have seen the smoke. History tends to repeat itself in variation and mode. I don’t hold it against Cruz for asking about this just to clear the air. I don’t consider it pandering.
I saw a claim that Cruz had called the Palins drunks.
