Parents in South Carolina who are part of a nationwide revolt against Common Core say they are being threatened with criminal accountability if they prevent their children from taking the tests required by the controversial educational-standards program.
Tamra Hood, a member of South Carolina Parents Involved in Education, said the state Education Departments chief Operating officer, Elizabeth Carpentier, warned parents could spend 30 days in jail if even a single day of testing is missed, Breitbart News reported.
In addition, Hood said Carpentier warned that groups that encourage parents to refuse the Common Core-aligned tests could be charged with aiding and abetting a crime.
A memo from South Carolina state education Superintendent Molly Spearman to districts bluntly declared there is no statutory provision for parents to opt their children out of testing.

The list, Ping
Let me know if you would like to be on or off the ping list
I am not sure what the homeschooling laws are in South Carolina.
But.. get YOUR children out of the government indoctrination centers - NOW!
This ping list is for the other articles of interest to homeschoolers about education and public school. This can occasionally be a fairly high volume list. Articles pinged to the Another Reason to Homeschool List will be given the keyword of ARTH. (If I remember. If I forget, please feel free to add it yourself)
The main Homeschool Ping List handles the homeschool-specific articles. I hold both the Homeschool Ping List and the Another Reason to Homeschool Ping list. Please freepmail me to let me know if you would like to be added to or removed from either list, or both.
How nice, our self appointed overseers speak.
Diselect Molly Spearman and repeal Common Core in South Carolina.
Last time I checked, she’s not a hereditary monarch.
South Carolina has some swamps that might be useful for getting rid of a sizable carcass with no trace. Just sayin’.
Figures.
Just our federal masters reminding us whose children these really are...
My kid, like my guns: from my cold, dead hands.
“South Carolina has some swamps that might be useful for getting rid of a sizable carcass with no trace. Just sayin.”
As I recall, Charleston has some really nice lamp posts!
Do you think some decorations might be in order? It is a quaint town, you know!
The fact these so called officials would even raise the threat of jailing a parent over a student not taking a test shows these officials don’t fear retribution from the public. They should.
I can think of a few other things parents can do too.
You are so correct, as well they are projecting their disdain for not only the laws that guided this country for so many years, but the moral laws as well.
For them their power over the masses is all that matters.
This outrage doesn't even go into the multi billion dollar profits being made on this Common Crap test taking scam.
It is disgusting what they are getting away with at the expense of the kids. It needs to be stopped NOW.
THESE MARXISTS ARE COMPLETELY OUT OF CONTROL.
Texas never adopted Common Core, but some of its malignant nonsense has permeated the state STAAR test anyway, making math problems so obtuse that even engineer cannot figure out the answers. Crazy.
When I was a young man back in the fifties we had a neighbor who was a professor at CSLB. The guy looked just like this woman, facial features of course. NOT that he looked feminine, just his facial structure, eyes, mouth were quite similar. He was as Liberal as they come.
In those days I really didn’t care about such things as Libs, versus Conservatives, but I remember my mother thought he was brilliant. Mother dearest was of that ilk.
This is in South Carolina!!? MY state!!!?
All right, we S.C. citizens are armed. When they come to arrest non-CommieCore compliant parents, there could be trouble.
Creepy.
Baltimore rioters only get two days in jail
