Viewers of CNNs New Day must have been terribly confused when afternoon anchor Brooke Baldwin popped up out of the blue to retract and apologize for something totally unspecified. Baldwin never once told the early morning audience what it was she was talking about.
Because the decision was made not to disclose the reason for the retraction and apology, the whole thing came off as a bizarre non sequitur.
For those of you who dont know, during a Tuesday afternoon interview with Democrat Congressman Elijah Cummings, Baldwin said of our veterans who become police officers, I love our nations veterans, but some of them are coming back from war, they dont know the communities, and they are ready to do battle.
The dangerous, damaged veteran is of course the most unfair smear and rancid stereotype anyone has ever come up with.
The uproar was immediate. At first Baldwin tried to put the blame off on some unspecified person. Finally, she took to Twitter to apologize.
Baldwin needs to tell the CNN audience exactly what she did and then offer the apology above. Hiding the truth of what she did, is simply bad journalism. You cant retract something without saying what it is you are retracting. This is a serious matter and full disclosure is a must.

Pretty on the outside, ugly on the inside. Is it now a requirement to be a liberal in good standing that you must hate our armed forces and veterans?
No, she was trying to say that some of the cops on the scene were vets and were ready to do battle with the rioters. She apologized for maligning the characters of veterans in general.
My two brains are beautiful!
They searched for a looooong time for a good lookin’ dem. They aren’t easy to find.
Listen.
I just want to take this moment to apologize... it will never happen again. Whew, glad to get that off my chest!
Oh, she’s guilty of something.
Remember: No matter how hot she is, someone out there is really sick of her sh*t.
Took the word right out of my mouth.
I give Baldwin credit for not being a straight up coward like Carol Costello.
No streaming AV at work or I would have...I’ll give you the benefit of the doubt- CNN?
THAT has been a requirement since the 1960's, where HAVE you been?
Cute but ignorant. I’m sure some red blooded conservative man could straighten her out....
Regardless of whether she started talking about cops and was talking about Vets who just came back and are cops that is a very low blow as vets have come home from every war to every kind of job imaginable. To insinuate a vet back from war started the riots regardless of job is ludicrous. Frankly, most major cities have cops who are NG, Reserve, and standby reserve, etc. There are six cops who live within a mile radius of me and five are undercover. All are member of military reserves.
Back in the mid-to-late ‘70s, our town hired some Vietnam vets as local cops. I and my friends were stopped in our cars by them more that just a couple of times. It was these cops who just wanted to live their lives as civilians as far away from the jungle as they could. No bombs, no land mines or booby traps to worry about...Their personal night mare was over. Yeah, they’d take our beer, our warm Dr. Grabow smoking pipes and our weed but they never arrested us, impounded our cars or called our parents. Even the schools were very lenient towards casual drug use. Only the worst of the worst (a small handful were into harder drugs like PCP, coke and herion) were ever seriously punished. One thing they did not tolerate was theft of school prooperty. Kids were stealing film projectors, balance scales, shop tools, athletic equipment and they sometimes got the book thrown at them. Some of our local cops seemed to want to steer clear of ruining young lives by initiating charges against teenagers like us and we in turn, tried to steer clear of them. I still remember how they could often be seen in their partol cars sitting alongside the cars filled with some of the hot young chicks in the neighborhood. The girls all seemed to love the cops but to what extent, I have no idea!
