Okay having had three neck surgeries, myself, i can say without the brace on I was not encouraged to do anything.

Were you in any shape to walk very far a week after your surgery much less run?

encouraged to walk, but not run. Surgery 1 Pro C-Disc in ICU for 3 days regular hospital room 2 days - walking encouraged.
Surgery 2 laminectomies 2-7 in ICu 3 days 2 days in regular hospital room - walking encouraged. Dural Mater Tear at C3-C4, repaired with titanium plates and screws, the same routine 3 days in ICU and 2 in hospital room. Encouraged to walk. in all surgeries walking was minimal for at least 6 weeks.
