Bishop Castle gets a new owner

Bishop Castle, 46 years in the making, which one man dedicated his life to building, has been turned over to a new owner.
A frequent visitor of the castle and friend of the creator is now in charge but the family who built the attraction says they were conned into signing over the deed.
The creator of the castle, Jim Bishop, has been fighting a rare form of cancer for the past few months and his family now feels like they've been taken advantage of.

This impressive castle is a popular tourist stop. Coloradans are upset by this scam. There are hundreds of comments at the source link.
I hauled rocks for this family in the 1970's. many other locals did the same.

This is a shame. I’ve been to Bishop’s Castle three or four times and Jim Bishop is a good man. He detests intrusive, big Government.

It is higher than it looks, too.
Jim Bishop built that place from scratch and accepted donations.
He used to let the local High School kids throw Halloween or Prom parties there as long as they cleaned up.

There are lots of pictures on the web. The inside is spectacular. My sister has a cabin about 5 miles away. We pass the castle every time we visit.

I grew up in the area. It is beautiful. The cabin is a tiny little weekend retreat. It has a view of Lake Isabel.

I currently live in Thornton. The rest of my family is still in Pueblo. I try to ride the motorcycle from Pueblo to Westcliffe, then down to Texas Creek and west to Salida. Last fall I did it in my MR2.
