Sometimes I think that we *need* another polio epidemic, because it’s the ONLY thing that’s going to make the most rabid (pun definitely intended) anti-vaxxers shut up once, and for all.
Far too many people are far too removed from the immediate reality of easily-preventable childhood diseases that kill and maim thousands of children a year.
I have several friends, who are nurses in California, and they have to deal with the anti-vaxxer nonsense all the time. One in particular said that she thinks Jenny McCarthy should be forced to be an acute care nurse for six months in some Afrian Shithole where they’ve never heard of vaccines, and actually see for herself what it’s like.
Did you read the article? She points out that the study that is being touted was done by a company that stands to make lots of money from vaccines and is directly connected to Obamacare.
Oh... You did not read the article
Maybe those “anti-vaxxers” actually read articles and real studies.
Perhaps if the vaccine makers emphasized true safety, avoided certain hazardous chemicals as preservatives, and recognized the body can't deal well with the cocktails of too many vaccines in a short time period, the anti-vaxxers would be fewer.
Are you as passionate about the Americans returning from Ebola-infested areas of Africa and flatly refusing to a 21-day quarantine based on individual rights guaranteed by the Constitution?
Have you and your friends in Cali been sounding off about the very real prospect of the homosexuals being allowed to give blood based on their word they haven’t had sex with another homosexual in the previous six months(or maybe 12)?
What do you and your friends in Cali think about the 0bama administration forcing the importation of illegals, dumping them in our schools while already infected with diseases that America had long since eradicated? Any problem with that?
Just wondering. Give your buddies in the Golden State my regards if you would. Thanks.
Rabid? Check out your own mind.
There wasn’t a vaccine during a polio epidemic.
Polio is a tricky one. It’s such a severe worst case, if they live. Sometimes I think I will get my kids that vaccine. Then I research, as I did this week. And my answer is once again, no. Why?
Polio is a name for one enterovirus. It and the others like it which can potentially cause limp limbs, paralysis, have zero symptoms in 95% of the people who get it. In 5% of the people, there will be stomach symptoms (nausea, diarrhea, vomiting), plus headache and feeling sick. In 1 case in 1000, there will be paralysis.
There is evidence that the child’s nutrition determines what symptoms or sequelae the child will have, which in 2015 we can understand to have a lot to do with the child’s intestinal biome. So I know how I feed my kids and their gut bugs, so there is very little chance of them getting the severe reaction.
Then I learn that these enteroviruses seem to “enjoy” for want of a better word injection sites. That vaccine-induced polio starts at the site of the vaccine. I conclude that I don’t want to do it.
When I got the vaccine, way back when dinosaurs roamed the earth, it was carcinogenic with some dangerous monkey DNA. I’ve made it this far but a lot of my generation has been hit with one of the cancers this money virus seems to cause.
It’s just not cut and dried VACCINES = good. You have to really read and research.
I’m not an anti-vaxxer, but I would definitely proceed with caution. As with many technologies, there are benefits, but also dangers. I think it would be prudent to spread vaccinations out a little more rather than give babies large doses and multiple vaccinations at once.
I get vaccinations, I had my kids vaccinated, and I encourage others to get them,
*BUT* I take a skeptical view of any study where the party who funds it stands to gain from the reported results.
I think it is also short-sighted to think that one size fits all. Strawberries are healthy and I encourage people to eat them, but a few people are deathly allergic. It’s likely similar with vaccines. We should put some effort into honestly looking at what the risks are and finding ways of identifying those at risk.
Far too many people are far too removed from the immediate reality of razing a child with Autism. I know because I have a 23 year old step son living at home who will never be able to care for himself.
That being said do I think that vaccines cause Autism? I have no idea and neither does anyone else. Until they come up with a cause its is anyone's guess.
Should we discontinue the the use of vaccines because of the risks? Hell no the benefits far out way the risks.
Until someone stumbles on a definitive cause we need to focus on a cure or some treatment to mitigate the damage. I really don't care about the cause I care about a solution.
