VA Official Grilled In House Hearing Over $300K Relocation Incentive

A House Veterans’ Affairs Committee hearing was the scene of a tense exchange Wednesday as a top-ranking VA official was forced to answer questions about a $300,000 relocation package the agency gave her to take a job in Philadelphia last year.

Committee chairman Jeff Miller, a Florida Republican, grilled Diana Rubens, the current director of the Philadelphia VA Regional Benefits Office, about whether such a large payment was needed to incentivize her to move the 140 miles from Washington D.C. to Philadelphia.

“I don’t know that, sir,” Rubens said when Miller asked her during the hearing if she would have taken the Philadelphia job without the package.

It was revealed on Tuesday that Rubens’ relocation stipend included a $211,750 payment to a contractor through the VA’s Appraised Value Offer (AVO) program. Rubens was also paid $84,000 in various relocation and moving expenses in order to incentivize her to move. That portion included $30,000 in closing costs on Rubens’ new home in Pennsylvania.

**a top-ranking VA official was forced to answer questions about a $300,000 relocation package the agency gave her**

Why are they questioning her? Who gave her the money in the first place? That’s who should be drug in front of the committee.

Aren’t these VA people around Obama who are offering this kind of taxpayer money to lofo employees just about priceless? It makes a person kind of sick at their stomach.

Was this “hush money”, or a rainmaker for some VA operative?

So sad for wounded military who deserve so much more than they have ever been given.

““Mr. Chairman, I just want you to know I’m a little uncomfortable with this line of questioning.”

Then perhaps you should have thought about that before you took the money.

The Daily Caller has become a navigational train wreck. What is up with them, do you think? Are they about to go under, or whut?

It’s like a camp for ADD and virus training. My mouse develops epilepsy like symptoms.

It’s the stupid ads that automatically run on these sites. The Daily Caller has become very frustrating.

Veterans Affairs spies, stonewalls on people investigating it

Congressional staffers investigating data falsification and whistleblower retaliation at the Department of Veterans Affairs regional office in Philadelphia were given a workspace there that was wired with activated audio microphones and video cameras, the chairman of the House Committee on Veterans’ Affairs said Monday.

Committee investigators also glimpsed a notebook used by the agency’s regional director that bore written instructions to ignore their requests for information, Rep. Jeff Miller, R-Fla., said during a late-night hearing.

Miller, chairman of the veterans committee, said he is “shocked” by the directives from VA officials to ignore congressional investigators.
