My guess is that they want the city to offer a “make it go away” settlement. In a civil case they have to prove less and could find a malleable jury. Is Crump the only hearse chasing lawyer in the country? Seems like it.

I'm sure Crump will work out a nice settlement that will benefit him. I'm assuming he's taking the case on a contingent fee basis, which means if there is a favorable verdict, award or settlement, Crump will get a percentage. Not sure how much — varies by state — but in PA the standard is 33-1/3%. Not bad.

And the other benefit to Crump is the publicity. Generates business.
