Immigration and Barack Obama's New Americans

While the American voters sent a message of repudiation against the overreach of the executive branch in the November 2014 elections, the executive responded by informing the voters that their message would be ignored. As Republicans won in a landslide election that gave them control of Congress by vowing to stop the overreach of the Obama administration, it simply didn’t matter.

In an interview with the Huffington Post last month, Barack Obama conveyed this message by stating that he will, “try to reach out to Republicans and see if they can work with us and where they’re not willing to work with us, we will do it administratively…by hook or by crook.” Essentially what Obama was saying is that even though the legislative branch exists, now controlled by a Republican majority in Congress, it only exists in so far that it is willing to pass laws that the President deems fit. Meaning, issues such as immigration reform will now be handled administratively without Congress as the executive branch has now absorbed the duties of the legislative.

On Tuesday of last week, Sarah Saldana, director of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), explained this to members of the House Judiciary Committee noting that ICE agents who do not enforce Obama’s immigration priorities, outlined in a Nov. 20 Department of Homeland Security memo, could be fired for not following the agencies directives.

Saldana explained that all ICE agents are required to carry cards that lay out which group of illegal aliens are deemed eligible for deportation based upon three ranking priorities.

As outlined by Homeland Security Secretary Jeh Johnson in the Nov. 20, 2014 memo, the three immigration enforcement priorities include Priority 1, aliens who threaten national security, border security and public safety; Priority 2, aliens convicted of three or more misdemeanor offenses or a “significant misdemeanor,” as well as recent border-jumpers; and Priority 3, aliens who have been issued a final order of removal on or after Jan. 1, 2014.

Rather than following federal law that mandates those who are in our country illegally be deported, ICE now bases their decisions upon the three priorities outlined by the executive branch. As Saldana noted during last Tuesday’s hearing, “every officer [now] carries a card, which outlines these priorities” that agents are forced to follow with the threat of being terminated if they don’t.

While the administration has claimed that these polices have been enacted due to the lack of resources needed to handle the flood of illegal immigrants into our country as well as congressional gridlock on passing an immigration reform bill, a quietly released report on Tuesday tells a different story. According to the report on the White House Task Force on New Americans, the Obama administration gives their reasoning as to why their policies now trump federal law. The report states that, “over the next 20 years, immigrants and their children will account for 85 percent of the net growth in the U.S. labor force”.

The administration further goes on to note that, “Immigrants are entrepreneurial, starting 28 percent of all new businesses” while “immigrants and their children have founded more than 40 percent of Fortune 500 companies, which collectively employ over 10 million people worldwide and generate annual revenues of $4.2 trillion”.

The White House Task Force on New Americans was established under Obama’s Presidential memo on November 21, 2014, as an “inter-agency effort to develop a coordinated federal strategy to better integrate immigrants into American communities”. It will facilitate life in the U.S. for immigrants and refugees by enhancing pathways to naturalization, building welcoming communities and providing “mobile immigration services in underserved communities.” The government-wide initiative aims to “strengthen federal immigrant and refugee integration infrastructure.”

What the American people need to understand from this report is the underlying assumption that Obama’s “New Americans” represent those both here legally and illegally.

By ignoring the law and rewriting it with executive orders and Presidential memorandum, Barack Obama has placed the priorities of immigrants above Americans while ensuring that illegal immigrants will never face deportation. The reason, in the words of the Obama administration, is that our future belongs to “immigrants and their children” whom “will account for 85 percent of the U.S. labor force in the next 20 years”. This is the long term goal of Obama’s “immigration reform”, the effect of which will drastically transform the United States.

This transformation is already happening, specifically in regards to the data on Immigrant Gains and Native loses in the job market. In a Center for Immigration Studies (CIS) report taken from 2000 to 2013 based upon analysis of government data, “all of the net gain in employment has gone to immigrants (legal and illegal).”

The report also notes that over the last 13 years the “number of natives working actually fell by 1.3 million while the working-age (16-65) native population increased by 16.4 million.” Furthermore, “Over the same time period, the number of immigrants working (legal and illegal) increased by 5.3 million.”

Contrary to the assertion that the Obama administration has made with claims that immigrants do jobs Americans won’t do, the CIS report found that of the “472 civilian occupations defined by the Department of Commerce, only 6 are majority immigrant (legal and illegal) with these 6 occupations accounting for 1 percent of the total U.S. workforce”. Jobs that the administration falsely claim to be overwhelmingly attributable to immigrants, are in fact jobs that are occupied by a majority of native-born American citizens.

For example, the report notes that, “51 percent of maids and housekeepers are U.S.-born, as are 63 percent of butlers and meat processors, 64 percent of grounds maintenance workers, 66 percent of construction laborers and 73 percent of janitors.” It is an outright lie that jobs such as these are jobs that Americans do not do.

The truth, backed by the governments’ own data, proves this and moreover supports the notion that the more illegal and legal immigrants we allow entry to in the United States, the more difficult it will be for native-born citizens to find jobs such as the ones listed. The more that immigrants are added to the job market, as these statistics show, the more the number of natives working will fall.

Thus, if your goal was to keep American citizens unemployed, signing executive orders that shield anywhere from 5 million to 15 million illegal immigrants from deportation while granting millions more work permits, would achieve it. Which is exactly what Obama has done under his 2012 Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program and his 2014 Deferred Action for Parental Accountability (DAPA) program. It is important to note that the 5 to 15 million number is in reference to illegal immigrants alone and doesn’t even begin to touch on the numbers of legal immigrants added to our country each year.

“Each year”, writs Alabama Senator Jeff Sessions in a brilliant op-ed in the Washington Post, “the United States adds another million mostly low-wage permanent legal immigrants who can work, draw benefits and become voting citizens. Legal immigration is the primary source of low-wage immigration into the United States.” In other words notes Sessions, “millions of low-wage foreign workers are legally made available to substitute for higher-paid Americans.”

Given that today we don’t have enough jobs for our own lower-skilled workers, what sense does it make to bring in millions more? “It is not mainstream, but extreme, to continue surging immigration beyond any historical precedent and to do so at a time when almost 1 in 4 Americans age 25 to 54 does not have a job”, writes Sessions.

A.J. Delgado of National Review, also brings to light the fact that the individuals who are most negatively impacted by Obama’s policies on immigration are African-Americans. Delgado notes that the, “black unemployment rate is almost 11 percent, far higher than that of any other group profiled by labor statistics and African Americans are disproportionately employed in lower-skilled jobs” the very same jobs immigrants are supposedly more willing to take.

Delgado then raises a very important question highlighting the hypocrisy within the Democratic party by asking, “Why are Democratic politicians disregarding the concerns and needs of black Americans in a push to address the concerns and needs… of foreigners? Amnesty proponents speak of the need to grant others a better life – but what of the need to look out for our fellow Americans?”

But, if your goal was to keep all Americans, regardless of race, unemployed while making it even harder for them to obtain a job by slowly removing them from the job market and replacing them with immigrants, you’d be doing exactly what Barack Obama has done.

What bothers me most when I think about Obama and his immigration policies, is the stark reality that some of our own front runners will implement policies that will wind up doing just what Obama wants to do.

In the end, the illegals will stay. They will be transitioned to “legal” as soon as they register. They will get work permits. In time they will become citizens. And then they will be replaced in the workplace by other illegal immigrants.

It’s very demoralizing.

The arrogance is breathtaking.

If you had told me in 1980 that a hispanic female would be the head of ICE (was INS back then) and that she would sanctimoniously lecture Congress on who she was and was not going to deport, I would have laughed. No such future was imagined, or could be.

But here it is: an invasion plan fomented by the President himself and another man of his race who is the Chief Cop of the United States.

This is their revenge on Whitey. Gon’ make you the minority, crackuh...gon’ run you outta your country.

I know what you mean. Whats even more demoralizing is the fact that the government has been claiming the same “11 million illegal immigrant” statistic for almost two decades now.

The real number of illegals in our country is probably 3 to 4 times as many as what the government claims. Sad truth is that we are going to be replaced in the near future by the very people who are allowed to benefit off of our dime today.

You’re absolutely right.

In the revised 2000 census, it was revealed that there were 9 million illegal immigrants in country in 2000. Bush’s talk of amnesty in that time frame caused an avalanche of illegal border crossings. (2000-2007)

Reagan’s amnesty ended around 1990. So in ten years 9 million illegals came over. Now they want us to think only 2 million came over since. Some folks actually buy into this too. Some folks here do.

We have between 30 and 40 million illegal immigrants in this nation today. The only way we don’t, is if 20 million or more illegals were registered and legalized behind our backs.

You nailed it. What you just stated is the elephant in the room both parties basically ignore.

Well, they ignore to do anything about it.

It’s their policy being played out.

I appreciate the note of agreement. We’re definitely on the same page.

Don't like what the American people have to say? No problem, our POS "executive" will just outsource the American democratic process.

This alone should be enough to have the bastard thrown in prison.

He’ll never be held to account for the actions he has taken due to the fact that he has no real opposition in our one-party system.
