Madonna Praises Margaret Thatcher, Upsets Many, Then Deletes Post
Billboard ^ | April 21, 2015 | Lars Brandle

Posted on 04/21/2015 11:05:28 AM PDT by grundle

Madonna has built a blazing career on self-promotion, good timing and aligning herself with the brightest sparks just as they're blowing up. Sometimes she gets it horribly wrong.

The Queen of Pop found herself under a wave of criticism after she shared a picture of the late British prime minister Margaret Thatcher from her Instagram account, captioned with the Iron Lady’s famous quote from 1989: "If you set out to be liked, you would be prepared to compromise on anything at any time, and you would achieve nothing."

Madonna tagged the photo with her own comment, “Thank you Margaret Thatcher,” followed with the hashtags #unapologetic, #rebelheart and a love heart.

It’s unclear why Madonna pitched her support for Thatcher, one of the one of the most divisive leaders in modern British history. Remember, this is a politician who, in the days after her passing in 2013, was the target of a social-media campaign to have "Ding! Dong! The Witch Is Dead” go to No. 1 on the U.K. singles chart (the 1939 recording narrowly missed the top spot).

Madonna’s comments didn’t sit well with her gay fans, the Pink News notes. Thatcher is still a polarizing character in Britain’s LGBT community for her stance on AIDS in the 1980s and for passing Section 28, which banned schools from “promoting homosexuality” (the legislation has since been repealed).

Madonna, who lived in the U.K. during her marriage to movie director Guy Ritchie, quickly deleted the Thatcher post. But it’s been saved for posterity and shared widely on the Web.

Madonna wrapped herself up in controversy last year when she shared images of Martin Luther King Jr., Nelson Mandela and Bob Marley with their faces entangled in black string accompanied with the hashtag "rebel heart"… the name of her latest album.

Perhaps Madonna was stupid and naive enough to actually believe all this War on Women crap the MSM and political class are pitching and thought being a strong successful woman was enough to be a roll model.

Gotta love Billboard’s inability to process the fact that someone supported a conservative leader. Poor Lars just can’t process it so he sputters about how divisive Thatcher was and how confused he is about why Madonna would do it.

My bet is that Madonna has no idea who Margaret Thatcher was other than that she was a female leader. Either that or it finally dawned on her that making remotely conservative statements is a new way for her to be “controversial.”

There was only one Margaret Thatcher. Few people have even a tenth of her courage and clarity of mind.

Good that Madonna recognizes Thatcher for who she was. Sad irony that she fears the wrath of a few loud-mouths too much to stick to her guns.

This is the same Madonna who told her concert audience, right before the 2012 election, that they should vote, but went on to tell them they better f%$%in’ vote for Obama.

Why delete a nice post about Margaret Thatcher, except for the reason that it hurts your street free among liberals????

"If you set out to be liked, you would be prepared to compromise on anything at any time, and you would achieve nothing."

There are a lot of Christian leaders who could learn from the Iron Lady.

Oh, oh... they DON'T agree with me. Quick... take it down.

LIBERALS not getting agreement tend to run like a cockroach when the lights are turned on.
