At least five people were rushed to the hospital with burns after a major gas line explosion at the Fresno County Sheriffs Office gun range, a department official said.
The blast occurred about 2:30 p.m. behind the range in an area under construction, said Lt. John Zanoni. The injured did not include Sheriffs Office employees, he said. No firearms were involved in the explosion.
Fresno Fire Department spokesman Pete Martinez said witnesses reported a ball of fire that burned multiple people.

Cause could be a run-of-the-mill failure to maintain the pipes, but I heard that INFRASTRUCTURE METAL THIEVERY is a huge, huge thing in the Calif. ag valley (where Fresno is).
ANYTHING made of brass or other valuable metals gets stolen
Often owners of ag fields featuring sprinklers will arrive and find ALL the sprinklers have been stolen.
Victor Davis Hansen bitterly writes that ALL brass historical explanation plates on landmarks have been stolen and sold —often there are no public records of the things that were written on those plates.
He’s SUPER SUPER mad about it.
Again —I don’t know such thievery was the cause, here.

Or it could be the backhoe that hit the 12 inch pipe like stated at the link.

I haven’t been on that range in a long time. The bad attitude of the cops that frequent it sent me elsewhere.
Does this question need to be answered in every case?
